The Research Associate is expected to independently carry out and conduct a grant-funded research project investigating the role of pcdh15 in photoreceptor development and function in a pre-clinical zebrafish model of Usher Syndrome 1F. The project requires performing experiments in zebrafish using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and transgenesis, immunohistochemical and transcriptomic analyses of retinal tissue, and assessment of retinal function in larval and adult zebrafish using electroretinogram (ERG) recordings.
Applicants should apply online at the link below and include a covering letter, curriculum vitae and three reference names with their contact addresses and phone numbers. Any questions regarding this position should be directed to Dr. Vince Tropepe at v.tropepe@utoronto.ca
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - PhD in Developmental Genetics
Experience - Demonstrated postdoctoral experience of at least 4 years using zebrafish as a model system to investigate the molecular genetic mechanisms of retinal development and degeneration, especially related to experimental modeling of retinitis pigmentosa diseases. Demonstrated experience in molecular cloning, zebrafish embryo microinjection, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, transcriptome analyses, histology, confocal microscopy, and electroretinogram (ERG) recordings in zebrafish larvae and adults.
Skills - Demonstrated experience in using bioinformatics to analyze DNA and protein sequences (e.g., ENSEMBL, NCBI, UniProt, gnomAD, ClinVar, etc.). Excellent skills in verbal and written communication with demonstrated experience in publishing research in high quality academic journals, presenting at academic conferences, and successfully contributing to external research grants.
Ohters - Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative research environment and successfully mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
