Description:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a 2-year (s) appointment. The anticipated start date is July 15.

The project is to investigate the role of miRNA modulation in immune regulation, specifically related to ARDS, developing biological scaffolds for wound and burn treatment with a focus on utilizing fish skin as a natural and sustainable source.

The incumbent is intrinsically involved in research projects where they contribute, by way of their academic expertise, to the projects directed by the principal investigator. The incumbent will take a leadership role in managing this project, liaising with collaborators, completing administrative requirements, and planning for follow-on funding. The applicant will also be involved in day-to-day lab operations, administration, experimentation and analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education - Pharm. D and PhD. in Pharmaceutical Science.

Experience - At least 10 years experience after the Pharm. D. Ideally, at least 2 years practical experience in commercial Pharmacy. Demonstrated research experience with:

  • microRNA modulation of immune regulation
  • in vitro studies, including immune cells and their targets.
  • in vivo studies in mice that are models of infection and disease within the immune system.
  • development of advanced fish-sourced biological scaffolds for specialized applications
  • pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modelling
  • analysis of developed therapeutics
  • synthesis and optimization of lipid nanoparticles for transdermal delivery of gene therapeutics
  • development of polymeric nanoparticles and their evaluation as antifibrotic therapy using animal models
  • development of in vitro models of wounds.
  • Extensive experience in knowledge translation and exchange activities, particularly within the field of nanomedicine innovation.
Others: Comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications of polymeric nanoparticles in treating fibrotic diseases. Experience working with analytical techniques like HPLC, ELISA, qPCR, flow cytometry, and western blot.

Skills - Excellent time management, recordkeeping, mentoring and organizational skills.

Additional skills required include project management, leadership and interpersonal skills to assist in the guidance and implementation of the research project that is comprised of a multi-disciplinary and international team of scholars.
