Position Overview

The Department of Surgery in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the principal investigator.

This is a recurring part-time position with variable hours. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Research

Collaborate with the MSK-T evaluation team

Set research activity objectives in consultation with the MSK-T evaluation team

Conduct research interviews and/or focus group with study participants (patients and health professionals)

Recruit and consent participants (patients and health professionals) to the study, following appropriate ethical protocols

Conduct descriptive and interpretative analyses of qualitative data; co-develop and apply emergent coding frameworks

Administrative / Clinical Management

Manage the ethics processes related to approvals and annual updates

Maintain effective records of the analytic process, and iterations of the analytic outputs

Prepare manuscripts for academic publication and oversee the publication process

Write reports summarizing the evaluation, findings, and recommendations for various audiences

Leadership

Ensure and contribute to a rigorous methodological process throughout the course of the study

Prepare presentations of evaluation processes and findings to a range of stakeholders, including: MSK-T evaluation team, BJH SCN leadership team, BJH SCN Core Committee, patients, policy makers, and decision makers

Undertake literature reviews, as required for study and/or report preparation

Qualifications / Requirements:

Masters degree in Research, training in qualitative methods, and/or program evaluation (MSc; PhD; student, candidate, or recent graduate; patient researchers)

Minimum of 5 years experience in health research required

Minimum of 3 years experience in national and international clinical trial management preferred

1-3 years of experience on projects (research, program evaluation) that included a qualitative component

Experience conducting research interviews and/or research focus groups

Experience administrating qualitative data

Training in and/or experience with qualitative software (NVIVO preferred) to support data administration and analysis

Strong communication (oral and written) skills

Record of publications in peer-reviewed academic journals

Experience preparing and applying various information dissemination strategies for research/evaluation projects (briefing notes, policy reports, business cases, grey reports etc.)

Effective collaborator and team player

Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams

Experience in working in the Alberta Health Services environment

Completion of tri-council ethics training (e.g. TCPS 2.0)

Completion of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) training/modules/course

Knowledge of research ethics requirements and processes (for human studies)

Working knowledge (clinical, academic, and/or patient-experience) of the project specific bone and joint health conditions (of the knee, back and/or shoulder), and management and treatment of these conditions
