Position Overview The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a PGMP Senior Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. ***This position works in the Edmonton and Grande Prairie area.*** The Perioperative Glycemic Management Pathway (PGMP) is a shared care model for management of patients at-risk of high blood sugars after surgery (perioperative hyperglycemia). Evidence from Albertan surgical patients shows that there are important quality gaps in current glycemic management practices which are associated with worse patient outcomes. The PGMP is a PRIHS-funded project to implement and evaluate the PGMP in multiple surgical settings across Alberta. Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Monitors the ongoing process of implementation across multiple sites
  • Discusses and resolves administrative problems that arise
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all hospital and government regulations for research involving human subjects. Monitors status of Ethics Review Board approval for pending and ongoing studies, works with investigators to submit new applications, annual reviews and notification of changes to study design and methods. Mentors faculty and Research staff in completion of ethics applications and renewals
  • Facilitate and lead cooperative and collaborative research initiatives within PGMP
  • Championing, leading, and managing implementation of new research projects
  • Provide implementation support and coordinate expertise to support teams within PGMP
  • In conjunction with the Project Steering Committee, facilitating communication between stakeholders and identification of risk and contingency plans
  • Monitoring of PGMP research progress
  • Supervise and project management of Research Associates, Research Assistants and research students to perform a range of research and coordination tasks
Strategy
  • Works in collaboration with the Project Steering Committee to formulate and develop the PGMP strategic plan
  • Ensures the site implementation teams understand the strategic plans and alignment of individual research activities and projects
Communication & Relationships
  • Ensuring key stakeholders across implementation sites and throughout the governance structure are informed about activities related to the PGMP
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge translation with internal and external members at every opportunity
  • Ensure effective communications of activities and outcomes within PGMP across the Governance Structure
Leadership
  • Facilitate and supervise PGMP implementation, research staff, and students
  • Challenges others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • PhD in Psychology or related health care area required
  • Progressive advancement in Research Project Management
  • Experience and Training in implementation or knowledge translation required
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methods required
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of health care research experience required, Alberta experience is an asset
  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience with the University environment required
  • Experience in Public Speaking, presenting at research forums, publishing articles required
  • Proven ability to develop local and external collaborations
  • Experience directing or leading project teams
  • Well-developed knowledge and expertise in the Health Care setting, particularly conducting research with physicians and patients required
  • Expertise and experience managing in the area of research methods
  • Experience writing ethics protocols, development of data collection forms, enrolment of participants, report generation required
  • Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the overall conduct of the PRIHS program.
  • This position requires a high level of effective time and project management, supervisory skills, leadership skills, facilitation skills, personal initiative and teamwork
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with senior administrative staff in multiple health care areas to foster collaborative research activities
  • Results-driven individual with a history of delivering high quality work
  • Strong collaborative and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of juggling multiple tasks
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with a track record of meeting commitments and deadlines
  • A positive team player who is able to develop and foster strong working relationships with staff and external groups as well as an ability to develop critical partnerships
  • Outstanding organizational skills are necessary to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities
