Description:

The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a one-year appointment. The anticipated start is August 2023 (flexible).

We are hiring a Research Associate to work on the Toronto Community Housing (TCH) Study led by Dr. Prentiss A. Dantzler. The goals of this project are to explore the determinants of residential mobility and housing (in)stability among social housing residents across the City of Toronto. The TCH Study is a mixed methods project funded by support from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council and the School of Cities.

The Research Associate (RA) will conduct research, collaborate with graduate students, faculty, and housing advocates to manage the operation of data collection consisting of interviews and focus groups. They will also be responsible for coordinating benchmarks with the research staff and identify future grant support. The RA will also be responsible for collecting and coding interview data using NVivo (or another preferred software programs). The RA will also support dissemination efforts including drafting journal articles for publication and policy briefs for the community partners. Lastly, the RA will support the Principal Investigator in identifying and applying to external funds for further project development.

Minimum Qualifcations:

Education - The candidate must have completed a PhD in Sociology or a related field. Primary foci should include urban sociology, race and ethnicity, and qualitative research methods.

Experience - Demonstrated hands-on experience of at least 2 years of experience working in the field with community organizations. Prior experience with conducting research projects and publishing is highly preferred. Grant writing and management experience is desirable.

Skill - Strong communication and collaborative skills are required. Demonstrated qualitative skills; proficiency with NVivo or similar data analysis software is required; competency with community engaged research is preferred. A driver\'s license is necessary for some maintenance visits.
