Your Opportunity:
Professor Michael Glogauer in the Faculty of Dentistry is developing new phosphorylated lantibiotics from oral commensal microorganisms called Streptococcus salivarius. The successful candidate is expected to have significant experience in this field, including developing probiotics from oral streptococci and performing structural analysis on the produced metabolites.

Your Responsibilities Include:
Involved in experimental design to develop phosphorylated lantibiotics into new biotherapeutics; this includes developing new methods for the production/purification of the metabolites, designing new multispecies biofilms models to test for the antibiofilm activity, and developing new immunomodulation assays involving neutrophils, macrophages, and T cells.
Essential Qualifications:
Education \xe2\x80\x93 Ph.D. in Microbiology with 5 years of postdoc experience in salivaricins and lantibiotics.
Experience \xe2\x80\x93 Demonstrated strong experience in lantibiotics and other ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) produced by oral bacteria. Candidate must have strong experience in Whole genome sequencing, multispecies biofilms, comparative genomics, metagenomics, lantibiotics structural biology, and probiotics development. Candidate must have a track record of publishing lantibiotics research in high-impact scientific journals.
Skills \xe2\x80\x93 Microbiology skills, oral bacteria isolation, antagonism tests, peptide extraction, HPLC, UPLC, NMR, Mass spectrometry, Confocal microscopy, Microbiome sequencing, metagenomics analysis, cloning and expression, Flow cytometry.
Other \xe2\x80\x93 Bioinformatics and microbiome sequencing, NMR spectroscopy, and Mass spectrometry.
This opportunity of Research Associate (Limited Term) is a 2-year term appointment, with the possibility of extension.
