Plan, develop and implement appropriate learning opportunities weekly in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Toronto Children's Services Assurance for Quality Improvement (AQI)
Participate in the development and implementation of programs that promote
Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement and Expression
in all areas of the program: dramatic and cognitive play, language and literacy experiences, emotional development, music discovery, science/nature, fine and gross motor and sensory activities
Ensures the centre's
PROGRAM STATEMENT
is being implemented.
Collaborate with co-workers regarding planning and extension of learning opportunities
Document observations as per AQI requirements
Ensure that children's individual schedules are reviewed with parents every four months (toddlers) and preschool when there are changes, signed and posted
Ensure that necessary supplies are available for planned program. Be aware at all times of materials on hand and advise the Supervisor in advance of necessary replacements in writing
Prepare and display reflective and current program learning experiences.
Use a variety of classroom management techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, reinforcing and redirecting
Provide positive social experiences which include sharing, cooperation, respect for others and self-regulation
Set-up and prepare physical environment prior to children's arrival
Perform playground checks daily, record information to ensure surface and equipment is safe
Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
Implement consistent behaviour guidance methods in accordance with the program's Behaviour Guidance Policies
Support implementation of Individual Support Plans through all of the above
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide the Supervisor with program plans, newsletters, as required
Keep accurate records of children's daily attendance, and daily reports as required, medical information and parent requests
Inform Supervisor of all personal information changes (i.e., address and phone numbers)
Read communication book daily and implement and document pertinent information
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, and staff
Assist with preparation and attend staff meetings and any evening functions
Supervise and train students, supply staff and volunteers
Assist with planning of non-instructional days and in-house special events
Supervise college students and complete evaluations as required
Assist in planning staff schedules and making adjustments to schedules due to absences, lateness or emergencies to meet the required child: staff ratios and needs of the centre
Be prepared to assume supervisory responsibilities during short periods of absence by the Supervisor
Participate in performance review process and as needed
Establish and implement goals for professional learning
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Have constant awareness of children's allergies and special health conditions and Anaphylaxis and Emergency Medical Plans
Follow the Centre's procedures for recording and maintaining First Aid and Incident Reports
Conduct daily health checks of children, record illness and contact parents
Administer physician prescribed medications with written parent consent and maintain records of all medications administered
Monitor indoor and outdoor environment, including play equipment and toys, and report any hazards to the Supervisor
Disinfect toys as per Toronto Public Health Guidelines and the Centre Sanitary Practices Policies and Procedures and centre schedules
Maintain the cleanliness/ housekeeping duties of the Centre according to the Toronto Public Health Requirements (cleaning tables, dishes, sweeping, mopping, washroom maintenance)
Staff at the end of the day secure equipment, materials, attendances and all confidential information
COMMUNICATION:
Communicate in a sensitive, positive and professional manner with children, parents, staff,
school staff, resource consultant and any other external agency
Promote parental involvement
Understand and commit to confidentiality
Prepare and keep updated portfolio on toddlers / preschool children to share with parents as required
Prepare and keep observations of all children in own program to share with parents as required Work in collaboration with the TDSB staff in shared space classroom
Work co-operatively with each other
Keep Supervisor advised of any pertinent information regarding parents, children, and staff performances, which cause concern
Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and School staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Completion of a diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education
Member in good standing with the college of Early Childhood Education
EXPERIENCE
Six months Childcare experience in a
toddler
setting, including programming.
Ability to deal with difficult situations and to take appropriate actions in stressful or emergency situations according to Centre policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
Holder of a valid Standard First Aid Certificate
Holder of a valid CPR Level "C "Certificate
Up to date Criminal/Vulnerable Reference Check (dated within the last 6 months)
Up to date immunization as required by governing legislation
WHMIS training
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Knowledge of Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act
Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Toronto Children's Services Assurance for Quality Improvement (AQI)
Knowledge of the centre's PROGRAM STATEMENT and POLICIES and PROCEDURES
Must be physically fit to meet the needs of the program
Computer skills
Sound command of the English language, oral and written
Ability to stand for extended periods of time; to work at the height of children.
Ability to carry/ lift children and carry/lift/move moderate heavy items (30lbs)
Ability to work some overtime
Ability to handle routine financial transactions
Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to: bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels, occasional inclement weather
Performs emergency or unplanned supervised duties within the job function
Opens and locks the program depending on shift worked completing security check and taking appropriate action if necessary.
