The Regional Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating maintenance operations across seven facilities servicing a fleet of 300 refuse trucks throughout the province of Ontario. This role ensures optimal fleet performance, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facility & Fleet Oversight:

• Oversee maintenance operations for multiple district service centers
• Ensure consistent standards for preventive and corrective maintenance across all sites
• Oversee inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades for a fleet of 300 refuse trucks (including front-loaders, rear-loaders, roll-offs, automated side-loaders, manual side loaders, and rear loaders).

2. Leadership & Team Development:

• Guide and support a team of Fleet Maintenance Managers, technicians, and administrative staff.
• Recruit, train, and mentor personnel to ensure high performance and retention.
• Promote a safety-first culture and lead regular toolbox talks and training sessions.

3. Budgeting & Strategic Planning:

• Working with the Fleet Maintenance Managers develop and manage regional maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, and capital expenditures.
• Forecast equipment lifecycle needs and plan for replacements and upgrades.
• Monitor KPIs such as vehicle uptime, cost per mile, and maintenance turnaround time.

4. Compliance & Safety:

• Ensure compliance with Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), CVOR, and environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, repairs, and certifications.
• Lead internal audits and coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections.

5. Process Optimization:

• Implement and standardize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) across all facilities.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve service reliability.
• Coordinate with District Managers to move fleet resources where needed.

6. Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

• Manage relationships with parts suppliers, OEMs, and third-party service providers.
• Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure cost-effective procurement and support.
• Collaborate with regional operations, safety, and finance teams to align goals.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field.
• 310T Certification Required
• 10+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably in solid waste or heavy-duty trucking.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and refuse truck configurations.
• Experience managing multi-site operations and large teams.
• Proficiency in CMMS platforms and fleet analytics tools.
• Valid Ontario driver's license (Class DZ or AZ preferred).

Preferred Skills:

• Certification in Fleet Maintenance Management (CFM or equivalent).
• Familiarity with telematics, GPS tracking, and predictive maintenance technologies.
• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to travel regularly across Ontario.
