About Us

Building and maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job.

The Real Estate Division of the Department of Public Works provides a variety of real estate services to the various provincial government Departments, Boards, Agencies, and Commissions. We also manage procurement and allocation of all office, warehouse and other spaces. Our Real Property team provides services in the areas of real property transactions such as acquisition and disposal, road investigations, appraisal, and survey.

About Our Opportunity

As the Planning Technician, you have a direct impact on the status of land, roads and accessing of records contained in the Real Property Registry and support in real property transactions.

Primary Accountabilities

We count on your strong attention to detail and organization skills for the accurate and timely preparation of reports and recommendations in response to property requests and inquiries from department staff, other government departments, the public, surveyors, and law firms. You will be responsible for conducting research using various sources such as cadastral/ownership information, title searches, aerial photographs, historical records, road maps, right of way plans, surveys and legal descriptions. Using your expertise, you will advise clients with regards to legal documents, the status of land, public highways, and records contained in our Real Property Registry and Crown Land Records.

Qualifications and Experience

You have completed High School and a two (2) year Planning Technician course, such as Paralegal or Survey Technician. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

You must have knowledge and an understanding of the relevant industry Acts, legislation and policies to address inquiries from the public, lawyers, land surveyors, internal and external stakeholders with regards to the status of land, roads and government records.

As travel is a component of this position, you must have a valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Though not required, it is considered an asset if you are familiar with:

  • common Law, Wills and Probate;
  • land registration systems; and
  • municipal, provincial and federal jurisdictions and responsibilities pertaining to land.
Your communication style, both oral and written, will allow you to conduct detailed research, prepare, process and sign reports and recommendations. You work well independently and in a team environment. You also utilize sound judgement and tact when dealing with a variety of stakeholders. You have organizational and planning skills that allow you to multi-task while adapting to a fast paced environment staying in line with the department's goals and objectives.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:
  • Post-secondary education and relevant experience in real estate and/or research role.

Working Conditions
  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.
  • Typically located in comfortable office environment.
  • Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
  • May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

Pay Grade: TE 16 - TE 22

Salary Range: $1,676.67 - $2,487.23 Bi-Weekly
