About Us

Maintaining the provincial dykeland infrastructure is no small job. We\'re recruiting for a Survey Technician like you to help our Province achieve support for the maintenance of this infrastructure.

The Capital Projects Section of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture is responsible for the Nova Scotia Dykeland System comprised of 81 agricultural marshes, 240 km of dykes, 250 aboiteaux, and 17,000 hectares of protected land. In addition to protecting highly productive agricultural land, the dyke system protects high value assets such as highways, communities, railways, windmills and cultural sites. This provincial dykeland system is considered critical infrastructure.

Nova Scotia Dykeland Systems Upgrade Project:

Duties/Role:

In this role, your focus will be supporting the Dykeland System Upgrade Project (DSUP) in facilitating the Capital Program. You will also be responsible for:

  • Conducting field surveys to determine quantities of materials used for project planning and payment under capital construction projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to provide as-built drawings, corridors, alignments, site plans and profile plans.
  • Design and perform survey layouts competently and accurately.
  • Utilize best practices for surveying.
  • Provide topographic and cross-sectional surveys in challenging environments along the Provincial dykeland system adjacent to the Bay of Fundy.
  • Coordinate surveying activities with the assigned engineer to meet construction requirements.
As a Survey Technician you will be required to perform CAD drawing manipulation, RTK GPS, NRTK GPS, and total station equipment set up, use, and configuration.

Qualifications:

As a successful Survey Technician 2(A)-(B), you will have Diploma in surveying technology and a thorough knowledge of construction surveying. You must possess a Valid drivers\' license.
  • Graduation from a two (2) year Survey course is required.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro is considered an asset.
  • Experience using RPAs for surveying and volume calculations is considered an asset.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of construction surveying.
  • Valid drivers\' license.
As the ideal candidate, you:
  • Are a self-motivated individual who works well independently with minimal supervision;
  • Participate fully as an effective team player;
  • Are experienced with current AutoCAD\xe2\x84\xa2 software packages designed for use in a surveying or engineering environment;
  • Are familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and safe working practices; and
  • Have experience in the use of spreadsheet software, word processing, and email applications.

Working Conditions

Work will be required in tidal areas, varying weather conditions, and working over rough terrain. Work is performed in regional locations with tidal conditions exposed to occasional; water, mud, and machinery noise. Candidate must be able to work over rough terrain and carry up to 50lbs.

This is a Term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of June, 2025. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

This position has a flexible location in either Truro or Windsor which will be dependent on on the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: TE 18

Salary Range: $1,855.00 - $2,178.43 Bi-Weekly
