Quality Assurance Technician (12 Month Contract)

Job Description


Position Summary

This position, reporting to the QA Manager is primarily responsible for assisting the QA HACCP Coordinator in maintaining the facility\xe2\x80\x99s HACCP, prerequisite and BRC programs. This includes all necessary onsite and record verifications as well as facility audits, product sampling and associate training. It may also include testing requirements, pre-operational inspections, data entry and record keeping as well as other projects as deemed necessary by the QA HACCP Coordinator and/or QA Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Primarily responsible for the day-to-day functions of maintaining the HACCP systems in the facility
  • Record keeping of monitoring and verification documents
  • Associate training (production, supervision, maintenance, engineering, etc.)
  • Pre-shipment verifications and sign off\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Swab testing
  • Coordination of product sampling & collection for in-process, brine, staph, MPR, water activity, shelf life, finished product & allergen testing
  • Ingredient sampling as part of retention sampling program and release of ingredients for production to use
  • Designated back up for water activity, pH, and MPR testing
  • Water sample collection
  • Completion of CoCs (chain of custody) documents to accompany samples for either internal or external testing
  • Data entry of test results into electronic spreadsheets
  • Coordination of product holds and releases
  • Facility audits (and/or weekend picture audits)
  • Room temperature monitoring
  • Equipment calibration checks
  • Week-end coverage when operating
  • Assistance in R&D related projects as directed by Director or R&D Coordinator, approved by the QA Manager
  • Assistance to QA / HACCP Coordinator in reassessments/revisions to HACCP program as required
  • Other duties as determined by QA Manager
Requirements

  • Basic understanding of HACCP principles and government regulations in regard to meat processing
  • Computer knowledge and ability to work with various programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to create spreadsheets, reports, and written letters of response
  • Organizational skills and the strong ability to multi-task
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) as required to conduct training, interact with associates, present findings, and represent the company on audits
  • Strong sense of teamwork and ability to work with any functional group of individuals including senior management
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices
  • Technical science diploma or degree
