The Quality Assurance Assistant supervises and ensures proper execution of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for food and pet food production and improvement in accordance with Good Production Practice (GPP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), relevant CFIA regulations, company and customer expectations.

This role provides QA support and effective communication to maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) and to ensure efficient operation of the facility. This role also supports staff training, risk assessment, change control, and addressing deviation & non-conformance issues, along with associated corrective & preventive actions (CAPA), to enable the achievement of quality standards.

Job Scope:



The Quality Assurance Assistant assists the QA Manager to prevent quality defects and ensure all production-related activities are conducted using the approved SOPs. The scopes include but not limited to review & revise SOPs; vendor qualification of material supplier & service; preliminary review Batch Production Record; support staff training; review identified change control, risk assessment, non-conformance, deviation, quality incidents & investigation and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA); assist in self-inspection; assist in quality complaint investigation, recall coordination.

Reports To:



The Quality Assurance Assistant reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Core Job Duties:



Support the Quality Assurance Manager. Conduct daily quality checks across production areas to ensure compliance with SOPs, GMP, and food safety standards. Assist with monitoring and maintaining the QMS and SOP throughout the entire manufacturing process. Support process improvement initiatives to reduce errors, enhance productivity, and improve product quality. Ensure all processes are managed to an appropriate level of record keeping and retention compliance to support the desired state of control as per GMP requirements. Coordinate vendor qualification to ensure the security and safety of materials, equipment or services. Preliminary review of Batch Production Record. Assist in the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of 3rd party certification programs. Assist with quality complaint investigation. Assist with self-inspection and other third-party inspections. Assist in developing and delivering job-specific training to production staff to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance. Assist with identification and development of required SOPs. Review risk assessment, change control, deviation & non-conformance issues found with associated CAPA implementation. Ability to review regulations, guidance documents and reports pertaining to Good Production Practice (GPP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and relevant regulations. Research and report quality, safety and efficacy-related information from scientific journal articles or monographs of authorized publications for assigned projects. Perform other duties as assigned by the QA Manager.

Knowledge and Qualifications:



Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control practices. Familiarity with CFIA, HACCP, GMP, and GPP requirements. Ability to interpret and apply SOPs, regulatory, and quality guidelines. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
