Role Overview
As the Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator you will play a crucial role in managing the procurement of rolled goods (textiles), agricultural plastics, fasteners, tarpaulins and related products from our global network of suppliers. You will be responsible for day-to-day interactions with vendors and for maintaining close relationships with them. A key outcome for this role is the procurement of quality products and raw materials within acceptable lead times and delivery terms. You will also be accountable for ensuring that we are receiving competitive market-driven pricing. You will be required to monitor inventory levels to meet the needs of our customers, and you will work closely with the leaders of our sales and production teams to ensure that the required products are in stock and available when required. As a longer-term objective, you will grow into an added role responsible for leading and overseeing the logistics of all shipments.
Key Responsibilities
Generate Purchase Orders (PO) for raw materials and other goods and send to vendors
Manage product ordering through the structuring of planned, rush and blanket order PO's
Receive incoming goods and close off PO's in the system
Ensure inventory levels are correctly updated when goods and materials are received into their stock locations
Maintain accurate pricing of goods and materials in the system
Assist with the sourcing and establishment of competitive terms with new or current suppliers for the procurement of raw materials, finished products and agricultural plastics
Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand using historical purchases and sales projections to ensure sufficient availability of products
Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory levels, supplier agreements, and product specifications (and approved substitutions)
Work closely with the sales team and production team to align inventory with customer requirements and seasonal demands
Manage relationships with our global network of vendors to come to mutually beneficial agreements and dealings. Utilize customer feedback in framing these discussions
Work with shipping and freight forwarding companies to negotiate rates and coordinate logistics of shipments
Coordinate and oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of agricultural plastics to clients and distributors
Build a robust inventory dashboard to manage incoming and outgoing deliveries/shipments of agricultural products
Qualifications
Candidates should possess the following:
Proven experience in procurement, inventory management, or shipping, preferably with industrial textiles, or within the agricultural industry
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Strong MS Office skills and experience, experience with QuickBooks is a definite asset
Proficiency with procurement and inventory management software and tools
Excellent negotiation and communication skills
Attention to detail and a results-driven mindset
A degree or diploma in supply chain management, business administration, agriculture, or a related discipline is preferred
A Supply Chain Management Professional Designation is an asset
