Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton ON

Hours of work: 35 Hours per week

Who we are: The Transportation team constructs, operates, plans and maintains a multi-modal network of assets such as roadways, bridges, sidewalks and multi-use trails, stormwater infrastructure, street-lighting, traffic signals, noise and retaining walls, signs, safety barriers and street trees.

Reports to: Program Manager, Roads Design and Construction

What you will do in this role:

  • Undertake detailed design in-house utilizing MicroStation CAD platform
  • Review, comment and approve Consultant led detailed designs, tender documents and associated submissions
  • Lead detailed design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects such as corridor improvements, active transportation, storm sewers, culverts, noise and retaining walls, street lighting and signals, as well as infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
  • Oversees design and construction of transit portfolio and highway projects impacting Peel Region infrastructure, such as MTO, Metrolinx and rapid transit projects.
  • Responsible for progressing the project work through all project phases (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and close-out).
  • Prepare and tender requests for proposals including defining the scope of work and terms of reference
  • Develop tender documents for contracts
  • Determine evaluation matrix and evaluates detailed proposals for procuring consultant engineering services
  • Control project budgets, schedules, monitoring and reporting on the same
  • Liaise with other departments, divisions and sections within the Region, as well as with Regional Councillors, external agencies, municipalities and the public
  • Negotiate and secures approval from the environmental agencies including CVC, TRCA,MNRF, MECP, NEC, DFO
  • Negotiate project changes in scope and related extras to minimize Peel's financial risk while maintaining the quality and schedule of the project
  • Provide assistance and makes recommendations for the development of the annual Capital Budget
  • Provide budget estimates and project scheduling for recommended infrastructure requirements in the Capital Budget and forecasted Master Plan
  • Ensures capital projects are well thought through to ensure risk is minimized to existing infrastructure
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
What the role requires:

Educational Background/ Must Haves/Bonafide Job Requirements:
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) Designation and a minimum of 5 years directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Multi-disciplined knowledge and experience in the design, construction and operation of roadways, sidewalks, multi-use paths, stormwater infrastructure, retaining/noise walls and structures
  • Proficient in MicroStation CAD platform and previous experience with InRoads/OpenRoads and AutoTurn would be an asset
  • Experience in planning, design and design and construction of roadway, culvert and storm sewer
  • Thorough knowledge of road design practices and standards, related codes, regulations, safety acts, tendering/contract process, value engineering and contract administration
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong negotiating, planning, scheduling and project management skills to coordinate multiple budgets, vendors and contractors to get the work done smoothly, on time and on budget
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and public relations skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative team environment
  • Strong organizational and effective and efficient time management skills
  • Demonstrated financial skills related to accruals, cashflow, triannual and year end reporting

*Work Mode:In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
