Applied Research at NAIT focuses on the economic sectors that are anchored in Alberta's rich natural resources, with the aim of advancing clean technology and environmental sustainability. We use the term applied deliberately because our interest is working on partner-initiated projects that solve real-world challenges, and which have a clear line of sight to technology commercialization by industry or broad adoption.




We have an exciting opportunity for a project coordinator that will be supporting Indigenous Community-Led Programs in the Centre for Data Management and Visualization and the Clean Technologies Team. This highly organized and proactive project coordinator will support and manage collaborative research initiatives between these two dynamic research centres. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in the sciences and a passion for facilitating interdisciplinary projects. The successful candidate will coordinate project activities, ensure effective communication between teams, and support the delivery of research outcomes on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:



Project Coordination & Management. + Plan, coordinate, and monitor project timelines, deliverables, and milestones. + Facilitate communication and collaboration between research teams across both centres.
+ Organize and lead regular project meetings, prepare agendas, and document action items.
Scientific & Technical Support + Understand and support research activities in laboratory and/or field settings. + Assist with data collection, analysis, and interpretation as needed.
Reporting & Documentation + Prepare progress reports, technical summaries, and final project documentation. + Ensure compliance with institutional and funding agency reporting requirements.
Financial Tracking + Monitor project budgets and track expenses + Coordinate with finance teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement + Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funders, and community partners. + Support knowledge mobilization and dissemination of research findings.

Skills & Abilities:



Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to translate present complex technical concepts recommendations to diverse audiences. Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, PowerBI, WorkDay) and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines. Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously with a high degree of thoroughness and emphasis on quality Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data. Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.


Qualifications:




Bachelor of Science, with a focus on Chemistry, Microbiology, OR Bachelor of Technology in GIS/Applied Technology. Graduate degree preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of project management experience, preferably in a research or academic setting. Hands-on experience in laboratory and/or field research environments. Demonstrated experience in report writing and financial tracking. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred. Familiarity with research ethics, data management, and grant administration preferred.

Remuneration

: $ 76,198.20 - $ 102,002.42 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (AUPE - Research Officer III).




This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
