Position Summary



The Project Coordinator within the Innovates team (formerly Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services) provides assistance/support and facilitation of research opportunities and activities within Centennial College. The Project Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Applied Research and is responsible for planning research activities, monitors and controls the execution of the project plan according to the funded proposals, participating in the technical aspects of reviewing grant applications; acting as liaison for student researchers; and attending meetings and events as required. This incumbent is responsible for chairing regular technical project update meetings with all stakeholders including industry partner(s), faculty and student researchers, this includes developing an agenda, overseeing the student's presentations and ensuring meeting minutes are recorded and communicated to all stakeholders.


The Project Coordinator will play a key role in supporting research and innovation initiatives by developing and managing essential project documentation, including schedules, charters, budgets, reports, and lessons learned. This role involves close collaboration with Centennial Innovates staff, faculty from various schools, and industry partners. The Project Coordinator also advises the Associate Director on research-related planning and operational matters, ensuring effective execution of multi-stakeholder projects.




Responsibilities



Project Management:




Oversee applied research project coordination in the renewable energy and clean transportation fields to ensure that the project deliverables are met within the time, quality and budgetary constraints. Chair regular internal and external meetings with all project stakeholders which include student researchers, principal investigators, senior industry technical staff and other researchers from other academic institutions Document all meetings with proper minutes to track decisions and archive the presentations and the meeting minutes Communicate with internal and external stakeholders according to project communication plan. Oversee the work and reporting of technical staff including student researchers and principal investigators, ensuring the quality of the work is to the customer's satisfaction. Participates in networking/promotion opportunities such as conferences, Centennial Innovates events etc.

Prepare Project Documents and Perform Project Closure:




Create project charters including work breakdown structures, timelines and Gantt charts, budget plans, schedules, minutes, reports, lessons learned documentation and estimation of resources Identification of hardware and software needed in the projects Evaluate and track the in-kind support from industry

Recruitment of Student Researchers:




Assist in hiring student researchers, ensuring proper project staffing with the right skill sets Creation of job posting according with the specific skills sets requirements of the projects

Write Funding Applications:




Work closely with industry partners to gather all information needed to submit proposals to funding agencies

Perform System Analysis:




Office administrative procedures, review, evaluate and implement new procedures




Qualifications/Experience




Minimum of four (4) year degree or equivalent in Engineering, ideally in aerospace or mechanical, technical College education. Minimum three (3) years of experience in direct project work for NSERC funded transportation and / or energy applied research projects with industry partners. Experience in Project Management required. Project Management Certificate or equivalent is preferred. Strong analytical skills to support decision-making and project execution. Demonstrated experience managing sensitive, high-risk, and multi-functional projects involving key industry partners and academic institutions. Demonstrates problem-solving and analytical skills with keen attention to detail. Comfortable managing ambiguity and navigating shifting priorities. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage diverse stakeholders effectively. Technical expertise and hands-on experience in projects within the advanced manufacturing sector.
