Position Summary




Located within the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta, the SIRCLE (Settings-Based Intervention Research through Changes in Lifestyles and Environments) Research Lab conducts research with a goal to advance and mobilize knowledge in the area of school and community health. SIRCLE delivers and evaluates school- and community-based healthy living programs throughout Canada and internationally which promotes wholistic health, prevents chronic diseases, and reduces health inequities. SIRCLE works to create systems-level change through projects that foster resilience and empowerment and builds on the strengths of communities. Using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, SIRCLE research evaluates the process, impact, and outcomes of health promotion interventions.


The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall project coordination and associated knowledge mobilization for the Healthy Schools | LINK | Ecoles Saines Project within the SIRCLE Research Lab. The Healthy Schools | LINK | Ecoles Saines project includes a diverse multi-site team, with representation from various sectors. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Research Coordinator, larger research team, project partners, staff, and trainees to manage all project activities including procurement, financial tracking and reporting, supervision of staff, leading communication between project partners and universities, governance and managing meetings, and overseeing community engagement, event planning and coordination for all knowledge mobilization activities.


The research program is part of One Child Every Child: A Transformational Child Health Research Initiative that is a Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) funded initiative. This ground-breaking initiative will transform child health research in Canada, promote Indigenous-led knowledge creation and self-determination, and drive discovery and innovation. One Child Every Child is a Parallel Paths project that has Indigenous and non-Indigenous Paths.

Duties



Provide direct project management to support the overall operations of the project, including project schedules and deliverables, governance, communication and engagement, reporting, and activities relating to four project objectives. Facilitate a collaborative team environment, consulting with the PI and larger project team as well as supervising and mentoring staff, student trainees, volunteers and/or interns. Develop and execute a measurable, goal-oriented knowledge translation strategy to effectively mobilize knowledge for local, provincial, national, and international impact. Develops knowledge mobilization tools to assist with the project (i.e., implementation resources, other print materials, web-based content or visual presentations). Identifies and leads consultations with key interest holders including community partners, policymakers, practitioners and representatives in health and education to apply research to inform healthy schools, and solicit feedback. Manage finances and budget for Health Schools LINK, in collaboration with the One Child Every Child Theme 3 Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications



A Master's degree in a health or related discipline (e.g., public health, nutrition, physical education, kinesiology, psychology, knowledge translation, etc.). 5+ years of public health experience working with diverse groups (a PhD may be considered as partially fulfilling this requirement) Understanding of ethical guidelines and institutional regulations relating to research and funding compliance. Proven ability to manage complex, large-scale initiatives with multiple interest holders, ideally involving practice-based, academic, and government partners. Experience in consensus-building techniques and processes (e.g., Delphi processes). Strong financial oversight capabilities (budgeting, analysis, reporting) and familiarity with grants administration. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Strong community-engaged research skills (e.g., community-based participatory research approaches, integrated knowledge translation, co-development of research processes with knowledge users). Understanding of the needs of school communities in Canada and of Comprehensive School Health (CSH) or other health-promoting schools frameworks. Working knowledge of typical office-related software and data management systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google, NVivo and willingness to learn new applications. Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills to produce knowledge products (e.g., manuscripts, reports, presentations, grant applications) and manage stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Qualifications



Knowledge and understanding of University of Alberta research services, financial, and human resources procedures, policies, and agreements is an asset. Experience with Indigenous community-based work is an asset for members of the One Child Every Child research team.
