Job Overview:

The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the activities and timely work of 5 project accountants on the Team. This work includes planning, studying, and collecting data to determine the profitability of projects and costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labour, as well as invoicing the customer. This person will ensure that sound financial analysis is used when evaluating projects, including information that is both summarized timely, but also with a high degree of accuracy. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal business partners as well as the team of direct reports is critical to the success of this role. This position will present analyses, identify and predict issues, and make continuous improvement suggestions. We are looking for someone that is eager to continue their career in Finance/Accounting, that is detail-oriented, professional and a team-player.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of 5 project accountants
  • Review status and any issues surrounding all ongoing open projects
  • Ensure that all ongoing jobs have invoices produced in a timely fashion in accordance with established terms and the status of the project.
  • Liaise with customers and general contractors regarding invoices, payments, purchase order numbers and discrepancies.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Review job costing and analyze for consistency and accuracy across all jobs and operating companies. This applies to internal, SRED, customer and warranty job types.
  • Attend regular meetings with Project Managers and operating teams.
  • Highlight and investigate with Project Managers the billing status, revenue recognition and potential issues and gains for ongoing projects.
  • Ensure that jobs are closed in a timely fashion and properly reported.
  • Make decisions on how best to close jobs in a timely fashion without sacrificing the accuracy of the job profitability reporting.
  • Ensure that Statutory Declarations and Letters of Good Standing for General Contractors are completed and filed in a timely fashion.
  • Review and distribute monthly variance reports
  • Review WIP calculations for all jobs
  • Analyze monthly plant costs versus history and budget
  • Prepare calculations for new labour and overhead rates as required
  • Assist with month end and year end processes as required
  • Attend Monday morning production meetings at 7:00am.
  • Special projects as required
  • In accordance with company policy/ESA; overtime, work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the company
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in accounting
  • At least 5 years of experience with Project Accounting
  • At least 2 years of management experience
  • CPA designation an asset
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Navision or a similar ERP software system
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • Experience working with other manufacturing departments on development and analysis of cost standards considered an asset
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move tasks forward
  • Has demonstrated the ability to inspire and lead others
  • Excels in a fast paced, multi-location work environment with tight deadlines
  • Good organizational, time management attention to detail and prioritizing skills
  • Able to see and communicate the big picture in an inspiring way.
  • Able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it
  • Able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions, cope effectively with complexity
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively through all forms of oral and written communication
  • Highly organized and self-driven to achieve set goals to specific deadlines
