This exciting opportunity for a Senior Accounting Manager is a critical position to Sleep Country Canada/Dormez-Vous and will be accountable for leading the day-to-day operations of the Financial Accounting Team, the accuracy of the monthly/quarterly/annual financial results of the general ledger, as well as the design and operating effectiveness of controls.

Reporting & Operational Support

  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end close including the execution of any month/quarter/year-end deliverables
  • Responsible for the timely review of all journal entries, monthly/quarterly Balance Sheet account reconciliations and identification of any potential risks and recommended actions/solutions to Controller and Finance Leadership team
  • Monitors accounting and financial policies, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with IFRS and Group policies including recommendations on any required new policies as well as internal controls and policies
  • Assist with preparation of ad-hoc financial analysis as required
  • Responsible for the Division's cash forecasting and reporting needs
  • Develop, maintain and report a dashboard of relevant KPIs to Finance management on a timely basis
  • Ensure complex and new transactions are appropriately accounted, documented and implemented
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies and make necessary adjustments where required
  • Responsible for the accuracy of intercompany/related party transaction to support consolidation and elimination activities
  • Responsible for the Division's regulatory and tax compliance requirements including all the Division's tax filings including income taxes, sales taxes and withholding tax returns
  • Assist with the Division's budgeting process as required
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, Corporate Accounting team, consultants, other business and divisional units as required
  • Support business operations by providing guidance on capital versus operating expense classifications, review of contracts for accounting and control implications and ad-hoc requests for accounting guidance
  • Represent Finance's interest in Company's strategic projects ensuring appropriate accounting, controls and reporting are implemented
  • Supports the Controller and the Finance Leadership team as required
Process Improvements
  • Responsible for the design and effectiveness of operational and financial controls, including proactively assessing current controls, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Respond to financial issues or control weaknesses by determining root cause and propose processes to mitigate/resolve gaps
  • Determine and execute socialization, implementation and change management strategies as it relates to process changes and drive automation and utilization of systems where appropriate
Team Management
  • Provide continuous performance feedback, training and coaching to team
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and create development plans with individual team members
  • Allocate resources to support core deliverables and new tasks or projects
Qualifications
  • University or College degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline
  • CPA with minimum 5-7 years' progressive experience including minimum 2 years' industry experience post public accounting
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of IFRS and controls
  • Demonstrated experience in people management, mentoring and leading teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, relationship-building, negotiation, analytical, presentation and project management skills
  • Quick learner and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a fast pace work environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders as well as build and develop strong partnerships
  • Retail Industry, inventory and/or income tax experience is a definite asset
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (macros, Power Query) preferred
