Located in Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts, Camp YMCA Kanawana is Quebec's oldest residential summer camp. We are looking to marry our tradition of YMCA value-based camping with leading edge programming while being Quebec's environmental education leader.
Staff live on site for the duration of the summer, which starts in mid-June and finishes at the end of August. Salaries include food, lodging and transportation to and from camp for regular days off.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure the safety, security, health, and well-being of campers, staff, and program participants at all times
• Work in a team with other counsellors and lifeguards
• Participate in compulsory pre-camp staff training
• Lead daily specialized activities (Interest Groups) for campers
• Plan group activities for cabin/tent groups for four sessions (each session is 12 days long)
• Attend nightly staff/section meetings
• Attend any all-staff meetings as required
• Responsible for camper supervision during assigned moments as assigned (may include night-time supervision)
• Complete equipment inventory and maintenance; ensure equipment is stored properly throughout the summer
• Report any safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies to the Program Director
• Respect the policies and procedures of Camp YMCA Kanawana
• Provide a general camp evaluation to the Director at the end of the summer
• Adhere to the YMCA's Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
• Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in his post and in the Association and participate in activities / fundraising events.
QUALIFICATIONS
• In possession of a valid First Aid/CPR certificate
• In possession of a valid National Lifeguard certificate
• Beach National Lifeguard certificate an asset
• Subject to a police record check
• Passionate about working with children and the environment
• Able to speak English and some French (with the exception of international staff)
• Experience working with children
• Experience working as a lifeguard an asset
• Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
