Every day, more than 1,200 people work with the YMCAs of Quebec network, providing a variety of services that create positive change in people's lives.



Camp YMCA Kanawana is Quebec's oldest residential summer camp offering leading-edge programming and traditional YMCA values-based camping. Staff members live on site for the duration of the summer, which starts in June and ends in August. Salaries include food, lodging and transportation to and from camp.



Counsellors are paired with a cabin/tent group and spend all of their time with their campers. Counsellors sleep in the same cabin/tent as their campers and are responsible for them at all times. Counsellors organize activities for their campers and plan what their campers will be doing throughout the session. Counsellors work as a team of and are equally responsible for their campers.



RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures the safety, security, health and well-being of campers, staff and program participants at all times;
• Follows policies regarding program delivery, care of campers and staff conduct at all times;
• Participates in compulsory staff training;
• Sleeps with assigned cabin/tent group in designated tent or cabin;
• Leads or helps with daily specialized activities (Interest Groups) for campers;
• Plans group activities for a cabin/tent group for four sessions (each session is twelve days long);
• Organizes and leads designated camp activities;
• Makes sure that program areas and activities are safe, fun, engaging, and well-run;
• Ensures equipment is safe and in excellent condition;
• Attends regular section meetings;
• Attends all-staff meetings as required;
• Completes a camper evaluation at the end of each session for all campers in the assigned cabin/tent group;
• Reports any safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies to the Section Director;
• Reports to the Section Director;
• Provides a general camp evaluation to the Director at the end of the summer;
• Adhere to the YMCA's Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
• Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in his post and in the Association and participate in activities / fundraising events.


QUALIFICATIONS

• Has a valid First Aid/CPR certificate (training may be offered in May)
• Has strong English language skills and is able to communicate in French
• Is passionate about working with children and the environment
• Has experience working with children
• Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
