Job Summary:

The Program Coordinator - Community Relations leads all steps in activities that start and grow community relations to better understand and respond to community needs to improve cancer control and outcomes in Manitoba. The Program Coordinator will work with stakeholders and committees to complete activities including program and project management, supporting grant funded projects, planning and hosting community-focused events using in-person, virtual and hybrid methods.

The Program Coordinator uses health equity and community-based approaches to cancer care, and is responsible for applying the decisions of management. The Program Coordinator works closely with the Underserved Populations Program team.

The Program Coordinator- Community Relations reports to the Program Manager - Education and Community Relations.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor\'s degree in either: Health Services Management, Human Resources, Business Administration, Volunteer Management, Management or other health related field is required. A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Supervised for at least 3 years

Managed projects for at least 3

Planned programs for at least 2 years

Evaluation for at least 2 years

Worked with communities (community engagement/development) for at least 3 years

Able to show an understanding of health equity. Able to explain how health equity effects patient care, experience and results

Able to show an awareness of equity deserving populations (groups that are at risk of not getting enough access to cancer care). For example, First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit peoples, newcomers, sexual and gender minorities, older adults, and individuals who are geographically isolated.

Worked respectfully with First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit partners

Skills in writing, speaking, listening, public speaking and presenting

Worked with many partners

Organization skills and attention to detail

Able to work on several projects at the same time

Able to problem solve and use good judgement

Able to work on their own and with a team

Good skills working with others

Must be able to begin and keep positive relationships with all staff and the public

Skills in computer work, such as the internet, Windows platforms and Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project

Used web-based meeting tools such as MS Teams and Zoom

Evening and weekend work may occur

Some travel may occur

Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Good record of employment

Able to legally work in Canada

Able to lift and carry items of up to approximately 25 pounds.

Preferred:

Bachelor\'s degree

Familiar with health care settings

Experience Writing Business Documents

Facilitated and/or learned about Adult education

Fluency in Cree, Dakota, Dene, Inuktitut, Michif, Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, or a language other than English

Experience with, and demonstrated understanding of, First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit health issues and experience in respectfully working with First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis and Inuit partners and stakeholders

Asset:

  • Master\'s degree
  • Able to show an understanding of written and number-based program evaluation
  • Worked in and with communities. Familiar with rural health care settings
  • Familiar with the cancer patient journey
  • Worked with Elders / Knowledge Keepers
  • Familiar with the Manitoba Cancer system
  • Research Experience
  • Able to speak French
  • Access to a vehicle
