Arts Nova Scotia uses a highly participative and collaborative approach, engaging and partnering with the professional arts community, our peers, and the public.For more information visit http://artsns.caAbout Our OpportunityAs the Program Officer, you perform a range of professional and administrative duties to support program delivery, implementation, and evaluation of funding programs as well as a range of communication and community outreach functions.Reporting to the Director of Arts Nova Scotia, the Program Officer works closely with individuals and organizations in the professional arts community, providing consultative advice, direction, and assistance with the preparation of applications or reports to grant programs or funding agreements.We are seeking a champion of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the arts and beyond who has a demonstrated record of supporting equitable representation of and opportunities for equity- deserving artists and their communities.We encourage candidates to clearly define on their cover letter their experiences and how it connects to this position and working with diverse community groupsPrimary AccountabilitiesYou will achieve this by:

  • Facilitating the application assessment process, which involves a fully consultative and participatory approach with members of the arts and culture sector
  • Coordinating the preparation of recommendations for funding
  • Analysing, reviewing and reporting on effectiveness and relevancy of current policy, program criteria and application processes, working with other staff in Arts Nova Scotia, the Board of Directors and the arts sector.
  • Providing advice and recommend solutions, applying awareness of current thinking and public debate about issues, challenges and potential opportunities related to the work of the arts community
  • Playing a leading role in the identification and removal of barriers preventing applicants of equity-deserving groups from accessing programs at Arts Nova Scotia.
Qualifications and ExperienceDo you champion the role of the arts in Nova Scotia?To be successful in this position, you hold a Bachelors\' Degree with a minimum 5 years of progressive experience in program administration, development, and evaluation. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be accepted.You have experience working with the arts and culture sector and an understanding of the complexities, challenges and needs of diverse arts and culture groups/communities within that sector. You have demonstrated experience working with and in diverse communities, particularly racialized communities including Indigenous and African Nova Scotian communities. You value diversity, inclusion, and demonstrate the ability to effectively build and develop strong relationships and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders. You understand principles of participatory practices for public outreach, consultation, and stakeholder engagement.You possess strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills (verbal and written). You are also creative, outcome focused and strive for innovation, using technology to capture, manage and share information.
