The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.



About the Opportunity



Within the IPPL portfolio, the Violence Prevention, Intervention and Response Program focuses on trauma informed, person centred evidence informed care required at various points of entry to health services by individuals and families with experiences of interpersonal violence. This program serves individuals aged 13 years and over who have experienced violence, including sexual assault, domestic violence, or other forms of violence and at a high level of risk for reoccurrence and/or lethality. This provincial program advances professional and interprofessional practice for regulated and unregulated care providers in health service settings across NSH and IWK and other sectors of the province.

Reporting to the Director of the Violence Prevention, Intervention & Response Program, Interprofessional Practice & Learning (IPP&L), the Professional Practice Coordinator (PPC) works collaboratively with members of discipline specific and interprofessional teams to create an environment for optimal person centered care. PPC\xe2\x80\x99s demonstrate expertise in their discipline; as well as demonstrating competency as a consultant, researcher, facilitator, change agent and leader. They foster a culture of learning to build capacity and support safe practice, advances professional practice through the development and implementation of transition to practice programs and ongoing practice at the point of care and professional development that integrates a learner centered approach. This position is responsible for developing, planning, executing and evaluating learning experiences for staff within the program and across NSH, specifically in relation to domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, gender-based violence, and other areas of family violence.

Please note this position is flexible within the province and requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia. Access to reliable transportation is required.


About You



We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Master of Science in Social Work required
  • Licensure and membership in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers required
  • 3 years clinical experience as a Social Worker plus 2 years clinical experience with related leadership skills working in the area of domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and gender-based violence, including experience in course design, developing, implementing, and evaluating curricula and education programming required
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and skill in adult learning theories, principles, and best practices in education i.e., curriculum development, program design, writing objectives, evaluation, and different learning styles required
  • Previous competency-based teaching experience to health care clinicians required
  • Demonstrated experience working in interpersonal violence, specifically in the areas of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and gender-based violence, and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the complexity of issues required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in areas of cultural humility, trauma-and-violence-informed, anti-oppressive, and gender-specific approaches to care required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other types of violence, including strangulation, human trafficking, and violence across the lifespan, including child abuse and abuse of older adults
  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessments, safety planning and risk management
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support required
  • Recent professional development relevant to maintaining competency in clinical practice and education

  • Previous teaching experience which involves designing, implementing and evaluating both traditional and nontraditional methods of instruction preferred
  • Experience with group facilitation preferred
  • Certificate/degree in Adult Education is an asset
  • Leadership development course or equivalent is an asset
  • Strives to maintain high quality, innovative services
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, common sense, flexibility & compassion
  • Ability to manage stressful situations, conflict and competing demands
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Coaching ability and diplomacy when dealing with stakeholders and persons in the community
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with various stakeholders
  • Experience with computer applications
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Compensation and Benefits



$44.37 - $51.73 hourly
$86,513 - $100,867 annually
$53.54 hourly ($104,398 annually) with 25 years\' related experience.
