The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

Within the IPPL portfolio, the Violence Prevention, Intervention and Response Program focuses on trauma informed, person centred evidence informed care required at various points of entry to health services by individuals and families with experiences of interpersonal violence. This program serves individuals who have experienced violence, including sexual assault, domestic violence, or other forms of violence and at a high level of risk for reoccurrence and/or lethality. This provincial program advances professional and interprofessional practice for regulated and unregulated care providers in health service settings across NSH and IWK and other sectors of the province.

Reporting directly to the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Professional Practice Leader (PPL), Violence Prevention, Intervention and Response Program, IPP&L, the SANE Clinical Nurse Educator is accountable to promote attainment of clinical expertise through the development and provision of education that focuses on optimal patient care. Working collaboratively with nursing and interprofessional health disciplines, the Clinical Nurse Educator demonstrates expertise as an educator in the clinical specialty; as well as demonstrating competency as a consultant, researcher, facilitator, change agent, and leader. They foster a culture of learning to build capacity and support safe practice, advances professional practice through the development and implementation of transition to practice programs and ongoing practice and professional development that integrates a learner centered approach. They are responsible for developing, planning, executing, and evaluating learning experiences for staff in the SANE program as a primary focus, as well as working collaboratively to facilitate education throughout NSH with other educators. The Clinical Nurse Educator team work collaboratively to support patient care teams at a site, zone and/or provincial level.

Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia. A valid driver\'s license and access to transportation is required.

About You

  • Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Masters in Nursing preferred
  • Active practicing license in good standing with NSCN required
  • Minimum three years recent SANE experience required
  • Qualified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) from a recognized source required
  • Specialty certification - SANE-A (Adult/Adolescent), SANE-P (Pediatric), and/or other recognized relevant specialty certification required or willing to complete
  • Previous teaching experience which involves designing, implementing and evaluating traditional & non-traditional methods of instruction preferred
  • Skilled in the facilitation of concept-based learning, collaborative learning & practice development
  • Experience in planning and delivering competency-based education and clinical learning programs within a complex, integrated service model in collaboration with multiple partners and stakeholders
  • Evidence of adult education theory & application in the last year preferred
  • Recent experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator/Nursing Instructor preferred
  • Teaching in a SANE setting preferred
  • Adult Education Program an asset or willing to complete
  • BLS-C certification required
  • Recent professional development relevant to maintaining currency in clinical practice & education
  • Evidence of leadership development and/or experience in the last year
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal & communication skills in varied contexts, including well-developed verbal and written communication skills

  • Possesses a vision of trauma-and-violence-informed and person-centered care, cultural competency, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Experience with community-based program planning
  • Knowledge of the Canadian judicial process and other justice processes, including an understanding of the Criminal Court process and providing testimony in Provincial and Supreme Courts an asset
  • Physical demands - setting up rooms, walking and standing, movement of educational resources/tools with facilities & across sites
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Valid Drivers\' License and access to reliable transportation required

Salary Information

$44.36 - $50.52 hourly
$86,494 - $98,511 annually
$52.29 hourly ($101,959 annually) with 25 years\' nursing Experience.
