As a Product Specialist, you will be responsible to promptly identify all new and amended laws, rules and regulations affecting finished products and assess the potential (functional) impact to Irving Oil. This includes researching, leading, advocating and influencing the development of external regulations and standards through participation at regulatory and industry conferences and meetings. You will act as the representative of Irving Oil and as a subject matter expert, you are responsible to contribute, influence and introduce new ideas in line with Irving Oil's values and strategic plans. The Product Specialist is also responsible to research, develop and support internal product requirements, programs and projects. This role supports all finished products in a geographical area (i.e. Canada, US, Europe) across the supply chain to the end consumer.What we offer:

What you'll need to succeed:
  • Create, leverage and maintain relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Effectively plan and lead tactical and strategic changes to product requirements aligned with industry and supply chain activities. This includes leveraging peer relationships, active industry involvement (i.e. Canadian General Standards Board), and collaborating with commercial, scientific, engineering, marketing, or other associations.
  • Influence, research, investigate, develop, lead, and maintain product requirements including standards, specifications, test requirements, product release and acceptance criteria applicable at each point in the supply chain. These will be in line with all regulated, industry and internal requirements and best practices.
  • Provide guidance to our Product Partners for compliance related project and change management activities.
  • Collaborate with other compliance and government relations teams (i.e. tax, customs, environment strategy, etc.) to review proposed regulatory changes and assess potential impacts to the company. Provide support to appropriate internal groups in cases where industry feedback or lobbying is required.
  • Research, develop and assist in communication, information, and training sessions to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations and be a critical thinking partner with team members to interpret applicable regulations, industry standards and best practices to assess the impacts on new business opportunities and/or assess the change to existing people, processes and supporting technology.
  • Provide technical advice, troubleshooting, and solution regarding product and the associated programs.
  • Work with Product Partners to help identify product risks, trends and activities and lead others to complete required actions.
  • Participate in on-call schedules to provide afterhours support to the business for PQQC.

Travel
  • Travel could be up to 25%.
Education and experience
  • Post-secondary education a science field, technical operations or chemical engineering.
  • Strong computer software knowledge and capabilities.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with petroleum product regulations, standards, handling, sampling, and testing is required.
  • Experience in a quality, operations, engineering or supply chain function
  • Experience with project management, process improvements, and quality management systems. Experience working across multi internal and external groups and understand the impact to those groups across the supply chain.
