Breakfast Television is looking to hire a highly-creative, results-oriented producer to lead our daily news coverage both locally and nationally. Working closely with the Supervising Producer and on-air talent, the candidate will create relevant and engaging live news stories to wake Canadians up every morning and engage with audiences anytime on the brand's digital channels.

This person is nimble and eager to stay ahead of the trends and takes pride in being able to make things happen, from conception to delivery. You must have a passion to be on top of current events in Toronto and across Canada, and editorial strength to clearly and concisely deliver news.

The the successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional editorial skills.

What you'll be doing:

  • Working as part of a team, you will liaise with hosts, assignment, and writers to create news programming within Breakfast Television - including show lineup, script and graphic approval, reporter assignments, and visuals
  • Oversee writers and associate producers in the creation of fast-paced, compelling and informative news stories
  • Produce all newscasts and news content within a 4-hour live show
  • Source news stories from a variety of outlets to create and present strategic daily content.
  • Use editorial judgment to vet and produce stories
  • Recognize deadlines and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Ensure that content is factually and grammatically correct, and follows the designed style-guide.
  • Screen and select footage from internal and external libraries
  • Feeds coordination and booking, as required.
  • Develop network of local contacts
  • Provide feedback and guidance to team of writers and producers
  • Play a leadership role in guiding the small but mighty news team toward one unified goal
What you will bring...
  • Minimum 5 years of TV news producing, writing or reporting experience
  • Ability to work individually and part of a team
  • Creative vision and keen editorial judgment
  • Understanding of editorial and production needs for morning TV audience
  • Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Control room and field production experience an asset.
  • Journalism or post-secondary broadcasting degree/diploma preferred
  • Sound communication skills.
