Print Solutions is NAIT's in-plant print production facility and provides a full range of print, design, and document solutions to support NAIT's academic, operational, and promotional requirements. The Print Production Generalist reports the Assistant Manager of Print Solutions and is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and operation of black-and-white digital print presses, bindery, and print finishing equipment.



This position is also required to organize and prepare finished print orders for shipping and delivery, as well as contact Distribution Centre and couriers for custom pickups and deliveries. The Print Production Generalist may also be responsible for accepting and distributing delivered goods, including paper stock and handling mail delivered to Print Solutions' shipping and receiving area.



Key Responsibilities:




General Production


Operate all black-and-white high speed, digital copy and print equipment. Operate online booklet maker. As directed by the Supervisor, prioritize work orders according to due date, order volume, and other job/client requirements. Complete print on demand rush orders while other print jobs are in progress. Operate a variety of bindery equipment used for the finishing of printed material, including binding machine, mechanical folder, booklet maker, paper drill and scoring equipment. Operate automated packaging equipment for shipping finished printed product. Operate production-style paper cutter for preparing printed material for finishing. Perform manual, hand finishing as required (e.g. manual folding for special folds, hand stapling, sorting, hand collating, etc.) Ensure accuracy with all print order page counts and completion of print orders as specified by the client. Coordinate completed printed work for the next step in the production process.


Customer Service and Administration

Proof print orders to ensure client specifications are met. Communicate with print production team to adhere to production schedules, maintain quality control, and ensure customer satisfaction. Use production software to update, track, and document the progress and completion of orders. Tracking may also be done manually on a hard-copy sheet, depending on the order. Prioritize finished material for shipping. Facilitate shipping of orders which includes physical delivery to NAIT main campus locations, or contacting NAIT Distribution or a courier for pick-up. Accept and receive delivered goods, shipments, and mail to Print Solutions' shipping and receiving area. (e.g. paper stock orders, courier packages, etc.) Provide friendly and professional customer service when interacting with the NAIT community, external customers, and business partners.


Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Replace all consumables as required (toner, stitching wire spools, staples, etc.). Notify print shop supervisor of equipment issues or production delays. Report consumable needs to print shop supervisor. Perform routing cleaning and maintenance on all equipment. Trouble shoot equipment issues, correct bindery equipment problems, and places service calls with vendor if required.

Skills & Abilities:



Basic office computer skills (email, MS Office, etc.). Full working knowledge of the operation of a small printing plant, including processes related to customer order submission, pre-press, digital print production and finishing. Full working knowledge of operation and maintenance of bindery equipment. Full working knowledge of operation and maintenance of black-and-white digital print production equipment. Full working knowledge of printshop software systems. Knowledge of quality control and safety procedures. Familiarity with post-secondary educational processes and systems. Ability to work efficiently and effectively with attention to detail within the context of deadlines, multitasking and change priorities. Ability to complete work independently or as part of a team. Ability to make decisions and communicate them effectively.


Qualifications:



High School Diploma, or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in a print shop environment operating bindery, print finishing and production, level print equipment.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).


Remuneration

: $45,091.80 - $56,284.02 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Print Equipment Operator I).
