Prevention & Awareness Coordinator
Naomi Society works to eliminate violence against women and gender-based violence in Antigonish and Guysborough Counties by protecting and promoting the safety, dignity, and human rights of women, children, and all genders through trauma-informed community prevention, outreach, support, and advocacy. Our work strives to be inclusive of social, economic, and cultural needs while addressing the foundational issues of domestic, family, intimate partner, and sexual violence.
Governed by the Board of Directors Naomi Society is a member organization of the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS) and receives operational funding from the Department of Opportunities and Social Development through the Nova Scotia Status of Women.
Terms of Employment
Permanent, Fulltime, Salary Range: $46958.56-55635.99/year
Access to Chamber of Commerce Health Benefits and RRSP Benefit Program
35 Hours/Week, usually Monday-Friday, 0800-1600 with evenings and weekends when required
Some flexibility to work from home on occasion
Reports to the Executive Director
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
• Bachelor's degree or diploma in social services, social sciences, counselling, marketing or equivalent combination of training and expertise
• A minimum of 2-years' experience in a related field with a strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic, family, intimate partner and sexual violence
• Knowledge of the justice system
• Proficiency in the development, implementation and facilitation of educational sessions and presentations
• Ability to navigate community support systems with a strong sense of community resources and agencies
Exceptional skills developing and managing social media content and accounts
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Doc, Calendar & Slides) and Canva
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills
• Applicant must be willing to travel within Guysborough & Antigonish Counties on a regular basis and to other areas of the province on occasion (compensation for mileage)
• A valid driver's license, insurance, reliable transportation
• Clear Vulnerable Sector & Child Abuse Registry Check
The role of the Prevention & Awareness Coordinator is to :
work with the Board & Staff to implement recommendations of the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence and other national and provincial inquiries
develop, implement and deliver education and preventative education sessions
promote healthy relationships within Antigonish and Guysborough County
attend community events and festivals to promote the importance of building and sustaining healthy relationships
build community relationships that promote inclusivity in services
assist with all social media accounts for Naomi Society
engage with the community around the supports and services offered by Naomi Society
oversight of the website and promotional materials to ensure information is up to date and relevant and that links are operating correctly
listen and respond with a trauma informed and culturally sensitive lens while providing referrals to Support Workers, or other community agencies
research new and innovative ways to engage the community
provide administrative support to Executive Director as required and
conduct other duties as directed by the Executive Director
