Violence Prevention Outreach Coordinator



Position: Full-time contractual position.

Duration: 9-12 Month or until permanent employee returns

Start date: As soon as Possible

Communities Against Violence Inc., a not-for-profit coalition of stakeholders within the Western Avalon region funded under the provincial government's Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI), invites applications for the position of Outreach Coordinator.

Located in Harbour Grace, Communities Against Violence Inc. catchment area includes the Carbonear, Bay Roberts, Placentia, Whitbourne, St. Mary's area, and Old Perlican area. Our mandate is to promote violence prevention through public awareness and education, the promotion of effective programs and services for those most at risk, and networking with other community partners to build community capacity.

The ideal candidate for this position will require:

A demonstrated understanding of gender-based violence & social justice issues Knowledge of community-based supports and resources for the Avalon West Region Some experience in community development Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Comfortable with public speaking Knowledge of programs such as Google doc, Microsoft Word & PowerPoint, e- mail, and Zoom Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously A valid "Letter of Conduct" from the RCMP with venerable sector check Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and willing to travel in the region
Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to complete duties involved in the promotion and awareness of violence prevention. These duties will include but are not limited to:

Completing presentations and information sessions to all age groups, regional schools, and community groups. Organization and collection of research material pertaining to violence prevention Planning and implementation of activities/community events Developing, sorting and distribution of promotional materials Regular office duties; including cleaning This position will require the successful candidate to complete some physical tasks such as lifting and carrying supplies etc.
Qualifications:

These skills would normally be acquired through an undergraduate degree or diploma in Social Sciences, or through an equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training. Knowledge of the communities served would be considered an asset Knowledge of community and/or government programs considered an asset Previous work experience within the non-profit sector considered an asset
