Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) is excited to invite applications for the role of Identity-Based Harm Prevention Project Coordinator - a unique opportunity to strengthen community capacity through restorative justice and facilitate upstream impact.

Mobilizing 5+ years of learning, experience and engagement through CJI's Sulah Program; the incumbent will engage a community of practice for primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention actors across Waterloo Region and explore theories of change for restorative justice interventions in situations of identity-based harm.

What Will You Do?



Curate an index of primary, secondary, and tertiary identity-based harm prevention actors and services across Waterloo Region. Design, engage, and organize a hybrid community of practice with primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention actors to support the embedment and embodiment of restorative justice approaches to identity-based harm, effectively shifting our small staff team as primary responders to catalysts of a more broadly distributed and capable prevention-network of skilled community members and service providers. Model CJI's values and restorative justice principles in engagements with community Analyze insights gleaned from the community of practice to inform a report on gaps and opportunities for identity-based harm prevention in Waterloo Region. Conduct a theory of change process for restorative justice interventions in situations of identity-based harm in Waterloo Region. Complete a project report for public-access on the landscape of identity-based harm prevention in Waterloo Region and the prospects for restorative justice intervention. Support CJI's public communications around restorative justice in situations of identity-based harm. Work in collaboration with CJI's Director of Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization to advance restorative justice and strengthen community capacity.

Who Are We Looking For?



Understanding of Restorative Justice philosophy and principles A strong understanding of, commitment to, and practices around anti-racism, anti-oppression, and trauma-responsive care Post-secondary studies in Social Services, Peace and Conflict Studies, Knowledge Integration, Sociology, Human Geography, Community Psychology, or equivalent experience Understanding of identity-based harm, hate crime and hate-motivated harm Familiarity with culturally competent care/culturally sensitive needs Experience with research methodologies and frameworks of knowledge mobilization Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications Demonstrated relationality and value for relationships Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Experience working collaboratively in Waterloo Region Comfort, confidence and experience in facilitation and public speaking Ability to work independently and in teams Ability to work with feedback A Police Records Check or up-to-date Offence Declaration will be required

This is a full-time, 12-month contract covering 30-35 hours per week Hourly wage: $22.32/hour Note: Activities related to this project could include interactions with community partners, vulnerable populations, and referral sources including actors of law enforcement.
