Whitehorse Head Office

Full-time, 2-year term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly

Annual salary range $91,247.27 - $105,420.79

What\'s this position about?

The Policy Officer is an integral part of the YESAB team. Their work is central to the design and implementation of YESAB programs and processes, which ensure consistency of Panel Reviews and other services provided. Reporting to the Policy Manager, the Policy Officer works collaboratively with YESAB staff to identify and define problems, clarify needs, and conceptualize and develop recommended approaches.

What will I be doing?

You will be contributing to the enthusiastic and lively work culture of YESAB and will be located in the Whitehorse Head Office. You will be working on a variety of policy projects related to the assessment process and YESAB\'s Panel Reviews.

The Policy Officer is responsible for:

  • The coordination, research and development of YESAB guideline documents, policies, systems, standards, procedures, and processes as set out in YESAB\'s Assessment Framework, which includes YESAA, regulations, Board Rules and policies.
  • Assisting in the design and delivery of education materials and training and/or information workshops
  • Providing recommendations and advice to YESA Board members and staff
  • Providing information to project proponents, communities, stakeholder groups, and the public as part of environmental and socio-economic assessments;
  • Management and facilitation of discussions as part of the policy development process, which would include managing the policy approval process
  • Liaising with other jurisdictions, in particular northern Impact Assessment agencies, and maintaining best practices in impact assessments
What knowledge, skills and abilities do I need for this role?

Having a degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Governance, Public Relations, Environmental Science, Social Science, or similar degree, as well as well as knowledge of and experience in policy development is required.

Strong conceptualization and analytical skills, research and writing skills, as well as effective project management and collaboration skills will contribute to the success of this position.
