About the role
.
The PLC Programmer is responsible for the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI's) used for the control and automation of McCain production systems. They assist with and perform installation and maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and effective operation of various Instrumentation and Control, Electrical and mechanical equipment. This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor.
What you'll be doing.
Programming, troubleshooting, upgrading, migration and/or installation of SCADA, PLC, VFD and HMI Hardware for projects related to general maintenance or new construction facilities, including logic design and network configuration.
Using control descriptions, I/O lists, electrical schematics, and drawings, creating PLC/HMI code for control of various systems.
Actively contribute to the "TEAM" by working diligently to correct and prevent any instrumentation, electrical or mechanical problems where there is a safety or food safety risk or where there is the potential to limit OEE.
Responsible for identifying, detecting and documenting all potential repair problems on the above-mentioned equipment during your normal duties.
Responsible for reporting any HACCP Food Safety Risk's or identified problems.
Managing daily SAP - Accountable for all Instrument/Electrical deficiencies/findings by creating a Work Notification (work orders, Maintenance plans)
Properly document with comments, descriptions, labels and tags every change/enhancement made to the PLC and HMI programs utilizing the system designated by the business for this purpose.
Must work closely with production and maintenance supervision as a team player to keep line running with minimum downtime.
Verbally communicate identified Emergency/Urgent repair problems effectively.
Must comply with GMP's, Safety, and HACCP Best Operating Procedures.
Must be able and willing to promote continuous improvement of workplace safety.
Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Provide project support and coordination.
Maintains/trouble shoots PLC, computer software, hardware and variable speed drives, calibrates and maintains steam and water control valves.
Passes on information, experiences and knowledge to other maintenance employees about repair jobs, preventive maintenance, problem symptoms, etc. which he/she may be involved with during his/her shift.
Maintains safety standards of equipment and work area according to established procedures and as instructed by the manager.
Works cost-effectively and maintains a high standard of quality and excellent workmanship.
On-site/remote support troubleshooting
Other duties as required by the needs of the business.
What you'll need to be successful.
Must be a fully Licensed Industrial Electrician with experience in manufacturing and/or process industries. Including a strong knowledge of electrical systems.
High proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC systems and SCADA devices.
Background in electronics/PLC's required and /or willing and capable of obtaining further Electrical training and certification, as well as further training within the areas of Instrumentation and PLC programming
Self-motivated individual having good organizing and coordinating skills with a proven track record.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Effective Verbal and Written communication skills are essential.
Developing respectful, constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Understand the fundamentals of a CMMS (SAP) and be able to utilize it for daily work.
Observant and detail-minded with a natural sense of urgency.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and CMMS programs.
Innovative - must be open to new ideas to develop and maintain systems and procedures.
Flexible - must be flexible with your schedule to support the plant.
PLC Experience - Must be proficient in Compact Logix, Control Logix, PlantPax, Studio5000.
HMI - Must be proficient in building and maintaining Factory Talk screens.
Network Experience - Must be able to build and enhance the existing network.
Evaluate downtime situations for root cause and suggest/implement improvements with Production Team Members. (Resolve the issue once root cause has been established / Joint decision production and maintenance)

Compensation Package: $52.71 CAD hourly
