We're looking for a Platform Engineer: specifically, someone who is passionate about building solutions that makes life better for others, enabling visibility and comprehension of application health and performance; motivated by opportunities to automate processes to improve system reliability and customer experience; to experiment with new technologies and guide others.

Our team provides consulting and education on reliability practices to other teams, creates new tools and finds innovative ways to surface operational data and simplify the lives of our fellow colleagues. We are an integral part of the transformation to be a data-driven organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within the technical team to provide monitoring improvements, platform stability recommendations.
  • Using your problem-solving skills to help uncover application issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Create visibility of our myriad of data and help our partners understand this data.
  • Promoting reliability engineering within our team and beyond through consultation and instructing opportunities in our Manulife University.
  • Building new application monitors, dashboards, and creative solutions.
  • Handling communications with our allies in the business using terms and language that they understand (translating Tech-speak to business language).
  • Maintaining positive relationships with many internal teams.
  • Adapting to constantly evolving priorities.
  • Playing a part of our on-call rotation to provide after hours toolset support in our high availability environment.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years experience working in a technical role in IT.
  • Coding experience with multiple languages.
  • Background in Cloud Platforms and Containerization.
  • Scripting experience with languages for developing automations.
  • Experience with monitoring tools.
  • Experience with testing tools and test-driven development.
  • Loving data and being passionate about deriving solution based on data.
  • You must be self-driven and able to work independently with an appetite for learning.
  • A focus and passion for creating excellent customer experiences.
  • Innovation, creativity, and curiosity.
  • Clear, concise, tactful communication skills.
  • Confidence to challenge and ask hard questions of the wisest of our colleagues, technical teams, and vendors.
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience with Chaos Engineering tools.
  • Experience using Data tools for presentation or modeling.
  • Experience with an AI Operations tools.
  • Experience in load testing and performance practices.
  • Experience mentoring and leading by example.
  • You understand Reliability Engineering and the benefits of it.
  • A sense of humor because we want to enjoy doing our very serious, strategic work.
  • Ability to influence others, negotiate, adapt to change, and overcome barriers.
  • An understanding of the Financial Services or Insurance Industry and/or Large Enterprise knowledge.
  • Background in SDLC and ITIL.
