Summary

Responsible for managing the plant lab in a safe cost-effective manner, ensuring the accuracy of the lab data and the administration of testing according to Company/ASTM/CSA standards. The Plant Chemist role is based in Picton, ON and reports directly to the Quality Control Manager. Picton is located in Prince Edward County, an island in Lake Ontario where you come to fall in love with food, drink, nature, art, and community all over again.

What you\'ll get to do

  • Management of all aspects of lab operation including supervision of QC Utility. This includes workload management, staff development and guidance, and providing technical expertise in testing and analysis.
  • Ensures compliance with plant policies & procedures, safety, environmental, provincial and federal regulations.
  • Maintains and calibrates x-ray equipment and other testing equipment.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of lab equipment/systems and standards.
  • Performs statistical analysis.
  • Maintains quality standards for and optimum utilization of on-site and purchased raw materials
  • On call as required.
  • Supports operations, quarry, and sales departments in all quality questions, by supplying quality control process data and sample analysis.
  • Actively participates in process audits, meetings as well as routine inspections ensuring proper documenting and reporting requirements.
  • Effectively communicates with control room operators, production staff, process engineers and others to drive process / quality changes and improvements.
  • Undertakes any other tasks as requested by Management.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-5 years quality control experience in a manufacturing environment or completion of an EIT program
  • Understanding of chemistry of raw materials and chemical reactions in cement, mining or other related industries
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office
  • Ability to calibrate, operate and troubleshoot x-ray instruments and atomic absorption instruments. Understanding of x-ray fluorescence and/or x-ray diffraction spectrometers.
  • Effective supervisory interpersonal and communication skills. Supervisory experience in union environment preferred.
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.
