POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible to assist Business Unit teams to ensure SaskTel (HoldCo) has identified and developed Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Emergency Plans that will provide ongoing operations contingency for all corporate business processes and service deliverables in the event of situations of emergency or disaster. The Business Continuity Planner is responsible for supporting the Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager as the Business Continuity expert in the implementation of the BCM Policy coordinating across the Business Unit Primes; and the BC Planner is responsible for working together with the Disaster Recovery Planner to ensure business requirements and Disaster Recovery Plans are integrated and agreed upon the strategies set.

LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES
People

  • Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement, performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.
  • Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages innovation, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.
  • Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.
  • Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers).
Financial
  • Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops, negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.
Innovation
  • Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plan and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.
  • Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.
  • Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Participates in the setting of annual objectives for the BC program, and establishment of an appropriate budget; provides regular updates to Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager on the status of the BC program
  • Researches and escalates newly identified risks to the BCM team in consultation with Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager; responsible to coordinate with Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager to mitigate potential risks to the organization, vulnerabilities, threats and exposures and provide direction to the individual Business Units to mitigate such risks as it pertains to their business operations
  • Provides coaching and assistance to all business units for all stages of BC plan development, in particular Business Impact Analysis (BIA) by means of training, workshop opportunities, expertise, process methods, and automation capabilities through regular meetings with BU team members in consultation with the Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager
  • Responsible for the ongoing review, and maintenance of BIAs, Mitigation Plans, Pandemic Plans and BCPs by all Business Units following BCM update lifecycle including \xe2\x80\x98Hands on\xe2\x80\x99 development for templates, and BCP / DR update process based on risk analysis
  • Responsible for ensuring the effective linkage between BC planning and DR planning; ensuring integration of BC/ DR plans with Corporate Services (Facilities, Property Management)/Engineering and gap analysis of BIA and business requirements in consultation with the DR Planner.
  • Directs and assists with Business Continuity exercise planning and integration with Disaster Recovery tests with Business Units, IT, management and executive committee members to ensure business and technology response, recovery and restoration
  • Reviews related policies, recommends, and prepares as required corporate practices and procedures related to Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Emergency procedures; develops communications and awareness strategies
  • Accountable for ongoing self development in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery expertise as well as increasing general awareness and knowledge level throughout the corporation on Business Continuity Management
  • Advise and implement expertise within the Program as appropriate and ensure best practices, lessons learned and recommendations are implemented into Business Continuity, Emergency and Disaster Recovery plans. Ensure BCP/DR industry compliance, associated recommendations regarding best practices and program direction
  • Assists and acts as back up for the Corporate Business Continuity Planning Manager with the following:

  • SaskEMO
  • SEPA
  • CIC
  • Crown Utilities \xe2\x80\x93 SaskEnergy, SaskPower and SaskTel
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent in certificate courses or training, or related experience.
  • Minimum certification as an Associate Business Continuity Planner (ABCP) designation.
  • Significant and thorough management experience in the operation and business processes of Network Operations, Customer Service and IT with cross-functional knowledge of business units and sound general knowledge of all SaskTel business processes.
  • Strong analytical, organization, technical, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to work and communicate with all levels of management.
  • Extensive operating experience and knowledge of personal computers and related software applications with a general understanding of PC environments (Microsoft\xe2\x80\x99s products and LAN based environments)
