About Our Opportunity
Under the general supervision of the Director of Corporate Development, the Workplace Safety and Business Continuity Coordinator works with management and staff across the province to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for the Department of Service Nova Scotia (SNS). The Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for the department in accordance with the requirements of the OHS Act and Regulations. They are also responsible for coordinating the department\'s emergency preparedness, disaster recovery and business continuity planning. The Coordinator is responsible for providing specialized and/or administrative and supervisory work in developing and operationalizing specific government BCM programs. They administer and supervise investigation of incidents in accordance with departmental policies and government legislation. Develops and implements plans, and is responsible for delivery of both the OHS and BCM programs on a tactical & operational level throughout the province. Their efforts build respectful relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders through demonstrated expertise, ethical behaviour and integrity. This work contributes to a positive work culture with regards to employee health and safety, job satisfaction and engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor\'s Degree and 5 years related experience managing an OH&S and/or BCM program and/or equivalent training and experience in either and or both fields is expected. Candidates must be highly cognizant of the health and safety issues of the staff\'s particular work environment and be able to establish credibility within the organization to effect successful behavioural and procedural change in the workplace that will protect workers. Registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is considered an asset. They must also be able to prepare the organization to continue to operate its critical business functions in times of crisis. They will lead the recovery effort when things return to what may be a new normal.
The incumbent is a generalist in the field of occupational health and safety and business continuity planning with a demonstrated ability to administer programs in occupational health, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and security. Requirements include strong interpersonal, communications (verbal and written), negotiation and advocacy skills as well as strong judgement and analytical skills. Must be a team player with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with all key stakeholders.
A drivers license is required. Bilingual ability in both French & English would be considered an asset.
