Trans Mountain operates Canada\xe2\x80\x99s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

As a Pipeline Integrity Engineering, Summer Student with Trans Mountain, you\xe2\x80\x99ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group in the Integrity Implementation team. The successful candidate will become familiar with regulatory compliance in pipeline integrity and gain experience in a wide variety of integrity related areas.
This position is based in the Calgary office and will report to the Senior Compliance Engineer. Duration: May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with addressing Corrective and Preventative Action plans assigned to the Pipeline Integrity Department resulting from recent Internal Audits;
  • Follow the Asset Turnover Procedure to assist with accepting key records from the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP);
  • Assist in updating Pipeline Integrity technical documents, procedures and standards and ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements;
  • Assist engineers in completion of anomaly investigation tasks such as Qualtiy Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of non-destructive examination (NDE) reports;
  • Assist with engineering assessments;
  • Assist with performing pressure cycling calculations;
  • Assist with creating work packages for anomaly digs;
  • Assist the in-line inspection team with the planning of in-line inspection tool runs;
  • Assist with the data collection and filing of annual performance indicator reports; and
  • Archive field coating evaluation reports.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:
  • Currently working towards a post-secondary degree, in your 2nd or 3rd year of Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Petroleum or other Engineering;
  • Ability to take on tasks proactively;
  • Technical understanding of pipelines would be an asset;
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of software (ex., Outlook/Word/Excel/SharePoint/Teams);
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude;
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Attention to detail is critical;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines;
  • Strong organizational skills; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Other Requirements and Information:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution and return to full time studies in the Fall.

Trans Mountain also operates through 15 First Nation Reserves located within the region spanning the BC interior through Fraser Valley.
