The Husky Midstream Project Engineering team has an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Co-op student to provide technical and project engineering support to its Engineering, Operations and Maintenance teams. Key pieces to the role are working as part of a team and independently to support pipeline integrity and provide engineering solutions to various problems and opportunities within the Midstream network.

This opportunity would be a good fit for a candidate looking to learn more about oil & gas industry, project management, and pipeline integrity & maintenance. The successful candidate will be highly organized, energetic, have a solid foundation in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering and project management fundamentals and work well in a fast-paced team environment that requires taking initiative and managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

Assisting project engineers to coordinate the pipeline integrity dig program; ensuring codes, standards and company specifications are met:

Supporting teams preparing and executing the integrity digs program,

Obtaining project funding and managing project spending,

Preparing for and supporting ground disturbance and pipeline crossing activities,

Supporting construction crews to excavate, inspect, and maintain pipelines, and

Completing closeout documentation and record keeping.

Supporting project engineers to design and execute small pipeline and pipeline facility projects. This may include:

Participating in design reviews,

Risk assessments,

AFE cost estimates,

Economic justifications,

Project schedules and project controls and other tasks relating to the integrity of oil pipelines and installation and modification of pipeline facilities, and

Travel to site to observe and verify construction tasks

Promote a safe working environment.

Qualifications

Legally entitled to work in Canada for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation (e.g., work visa)

Mechanical or Chemical Engineering student

Available to begin work in September 2023 for 12 or 16 months

Willing to relocate to Lloydminster, AB/SK

Education

Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Program at an accredited post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies after the work term. Preference will be given to a student who has completed their 3rd year of study.

Attached copies of transcripts

Currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered

Skills / Competencies

Effective analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills

A demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Highly motivated with a positive, professional attitude

Previous pipelines, terminals, engineering oil and gas and/or operations experience would be an asset

Previous education or experience with project management would be an asset

Strong computer skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Office product suite

Familiarity with CSA Z662 (Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems) would be an asset

Previous experience with SAP would be an asset

H2S Alive and First Aid training would be considered an asset.

Strong attitude for carrying out all work in a safe, cautious manner while following safe work practices.

Working Conditions

Office environment, with periodic travel to field locations and construction sites.

May include sitting, standing, computer work, driving, working at site, etc.

Safety Sensitive

This may be a safety-sensitive role, and you will also be required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during required work hours. Furthermore, you will also be required to pass the pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.

Safety sensitive positions require the operation of a motor vehicle, applicants are asked to provide a recent (i.e., issued within the previous 4 weeks) original driver is abstract, for the preceding 5-year period, if offered the position. A valid Canadian class 5 Driver\'s License with no restrictions (i.e., non GDL) is a requirement for this role

Relocation

Students moving for their work term may be eligible to receive a lump sum payment to assist with relocation expenses.

Note: Candidates must have their own means of transportation as there is no public transportation in field locations.
