POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy Manager and Professional Practice Leader, Pharmacy Services is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacy professional practice standards, guidelines and protocols in accordance with SJHH Pharmacy Services initiatives. The Professional Practice Leader (PPL) Pharmacy Services provides leadership in creating, articulating and sustaining an organization-wide vision for the professional practice of Pharmacy Services at SJHH.

The PPL works collaboratively with Managers, Supervisors, other programs and stakeholders to promote a progressive clinical pharmacy service; develops, leads, implements and evaluates programs and services across SJHH which include: pharmaceutical care, drug therapy monitoring, staff orientation, clinical staff performance, and continuing pharmacy education.

The PPL works as part of the SJHH Pharmacy Leadership Team in strategic planning, budgeting and decision making. Contributes to annual operating and capital budget proposals; assists with preparation and monitoring of the annual pharmacy service operating budget, ensuring that resources are deployed efficiently and effectively.

The PPL provides professional practice and clinical leadership to Pharmacists, Pharmacotherapy Specialists and Pharmacy Technicians within the pharmacy department (at Charlton, West 5th, and King Street campuses) and other designated staff by providing guidance, support and advice. Coordinates work assignments, scheduling, evaluates performance, determines training needs and oversees related training/orientation for Charlton inpatient Pharmacist and Pharmaotherapy Specialist staff. Assists the West 5th and Retail Pharmacy Managers with performance evaluations and annual learning plans for their pharmacy staff. Recruits staff in conjunction with designated leaders to maintain approved staff complement.

The PPL consults with other healthcare professionals and provides direction related to pharmacy involvement in programs/services. Acts as a resource for internal and external health care professionals. Coordinates Pharmacy practice policies and procedures and provides written contributions to pharmacy operational policies and procedures, drug information bulletins, departmental newsletters and manuals.

The PPL Pharmacy Services is responsible for discipline - specific practices as it is integrated in patient care, education and research in accordance with the mission, values and professional standards of St. Joseph\'s Healthcare Hamilton and regulations of external agencies. The PPL supports his/her profession by advocating for an environmnet where ongoing learning, evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement and research are supported.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with a Master\'s Degree in Pharmacy/PharmD preferred
  • Hospital Pharmacy Residency or Advanced Clinical Degree with experience in an academic health sciences centre
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of practice as a Pharmacist including experience in progressive positions of leadership
  • Must be registered in good standing as a Part A Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Must have previous leadership experience with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills, the ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
HOURS OF WORK:
Monday - Friday; Days and On-Call
