The Campus Daycare is licensed and provides care for the children of University of Saskatchewan students, staff and faculty. The facility has room for 44 children between 30 and 60 months (two and a half to six years old).

Primary Purpose: This position is part of our Campus Daycare team. The incumbent will also participate as an active and supportive member of the Campus Daycare group to enhance our childcare centre experience.

Nature of Work: The position reports directly to the Campus Daycare Director. This position will workas part of a collaborative team, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for creating a positive environment that will enhance children's emotional, social, creative, physical and intellectual development. An Early Childhood Educator looks after all aspects of the care and safety of young children in a developmentally appropriate environment and supports families to ensure a positive experience within the Campus Daycare.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children

Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity

Establishing a rapport with the Parents, Staff and Director to ensure a mutually respective atmosphere

Maintaining the facility to provide a safe, stimulating environment and protects the health, security and wellbeing of children

Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members

Treats all confidential information and materials in a confidential manner

Collaborates with others as required to complete assignments and support team efforts.

Support children in the development of their self-help skills and independence

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children

Assist with proper eating, dressing and toilet habits

Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties

Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children

Will assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records

Other job-related activities may include swimming, taking the children on outings, serving meals and snacks, cleaning etc. and other duties as requested

Education: Early Childhood Educator Level 1, 2, 3 in Saskatchewan is required. Additional Diversity and Inclusion training would be an asset. Canadian Language Benchmark Level 7+ is mandatory. Incumbant will be required to obtain ECE Level 3 within 2 years.

Licenses: Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector screening is required. Current First Aid and Infant CPR is required. Food safe certificate would be considered an asset.

Experience: A minimum of two years' experience working in a daycare centre setting or childcare field

Perform medium to moderate lifting

Working independently and collaboratively as a team member

Effective and excellent English language skills

Excellent organizational skills
