Your Opportunity:

This position is part of the dynamic Addiction and Mental Health Adult Outreach Team which is based in Medicine Hat at the Regional Resource Center. The Peer Support Worker is an essential member of a transformed, integrated, recovery-oriented treatment team. The Peer Support Worker provides interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of Addiction & Mental Health providers by providing emotional and social support to others who share a common experience. Through their own lived experience(s) with addiction and/or mental illness(s) and experiences of recovery and resilience, the Peer Support Worker can authentically inspire hope and demonstrate the possibility of recovery. As a result, the service recipient\'s recovery and personal life goals can/are integrated with the health care team\'s treatment goals. Service recipients are supported in being informed and activated patients with better health outcomes, improved quality of life and greater degrees of community integration. Addiction & Mental Health providers are better prepared and proactive in providing integrated, recovery-oriented care. This role also includes providing education on safe use and supplies, overdose response support, education and naloxone kit distribution and referrals to other appropriate service providers. Doing street outreach and supporting individuals in meeting their basic needs are also expectations of this role. A resume should be attached to be considered for the role.

Description:

As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team. The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for the diverse needs of clients navigating life impacting experiences. Through your own lived experience(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering mentorship and support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and resiliency/recovery-oriented health care and treatment experience.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of grade 12 or equivalent. Minimum two years\' experience working with diverse and marginalized populations (work or volunteer). Lived experience with addictions, homelessness and/or mental illness. Must be willing to share one\'s personal experience(s). Establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries is necessary. Knowledge and experience of the principles and practice of harm reduction and recovery-oriented care. Experience working with a multidisciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of recognized peer support training program. Previous experience in health care setting or in a human services field. Knowledge of systemic issues such as poverty and stigma. Post-secondary education applicable to the position. Non-violent crisis intervention, CPR, Mental health first aid.
