Lennon House Peer Support Worker \xe2\x80\x93 Casual Position Overview of Lennon House Lennon Recovery House Association, Inc. (Lennon House) is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides a safe space and home-like environment for individuals in recovery from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. It is our firm belief that each resident is responsible for their own actions and their own sobriety. Lennon House offers a temporary home (up to 1 year) where residents can improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential. Lennon House offers a client-centered, and trauma informed approach with evidence-based programming to provide a solid foundation to educate resident to address issues commonly faced in recovery. Overview of the position Lennon House is looking for Peer Support Workers to fill casual shifts as needed. Shifts are 8 hours: 7am \xe2\x80\x93 3pm days, 3 \xe2\x80\x93 11 pm evenings or 11pm \xe2\x80\x93 7 am overnight. Peer Support staff come alongside the residents in their recovery journey to be a role model to healthy living and recovery, demonstrating a knowledge of addiction and mental health and the recovery process with the ability to de-escalate potential volatile situations. All employees are required to sign a code of conduct and a confidentiality agreement and must be discreet and discerning when working with residents. A high moral standard of work ethics will be required at all times. General duties \xc2\xb7 Upon arrival for your shift, read the daily report. \xc2\xb7 Establish trusting relationships with residents: listen to and act upon resident concerns. \xc2\xb7 Escalate concerns and recommendations to management regarding residents. Fill out a Duty to Inform or Incident report Form if necessary. \xc2\xb7 Be familiar with, and adhere to, the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Staff Handbook. \xc2\xb7 Good communication skills. \xc2\xb7 In the absence of management, call emergency services if required. \xc2\xb7 Do bag checks when residents arrive or return after outings. \xc2\xb7 Administer room checks or urine tests as needed. \xc2\xb7 Supervise resident pouring their medication. Verify they swallow the meds. \xc2\xb7 May be required to drive residents to meetings or on errands as necessary. \xc2\xb7 Check on residents hourly. \xc2\xb7 Maintain good communication with your co-worker on each shift. You are a team and each of you needs to know, in general, where the other one is. \xc2\xb7 Keep staff area, kitchen and bathroom clean. Empty garbage as necessary. See Duty List as per shifts. May be required to prepare rooms for new residents. \xc2\xb7 Each staff member is to write a Daily Report by end of shift. Qualifications \xc2\xb7 Grade 12 with demonstrated knowledge of addictions and recovery process. \xc2\xb7 Peer Support Training or Resident Care Worker Training an asset. \xc2\xb7 If applicant is in recovery, must have minimum 2 years recovery from addiction and be currently active in a recovery community. \xc2\xb7 Good oral and written communications skills, computer skills, record keeping skills. \xc2\xb7 Ability to work well with people in need. Ability to work in a team environment. \xc2\xb7 Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector check required. \xc2\xb7 Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license required. Please note that Lennon House is in a rural area which means that employees will need to drive in winter driving conditions to get to and from work and that emergency services\xe2\x80\x99 response time will be longer than if the residence was in Charlottetown.
