Reporting directly to the Director, Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist is an important member of the Finance, Administrative and North American HR teams, working together to support the company. Functionally the position will be working closely with HR & Finance Managers on a day-to-day basis. This Payroll Specialist opportunity is an ideal role for someone looking to be involved with the full scope of the payroll function within an organization.

Position Responsibilities

  • Guide employees on the various procedures, policies, or questions they may have on payroll, timesheets, benefits etc.
  • Maintaining employee time recording system PAYWORKS for bi-weekly hourly pay group including hiring new employees, double checking entries, terminating exiting employees, assigning statutory holidays etc.
  • Maintaining employee Personnel files for hourly employees (new hires, criminal check, payroll changes, terminations, ROE, garnishment, RRSP and others are always up to date.)
  • Assisting with Unionized weekly pay group by maintaining employee Personnel files and PAYWORKS payroll profiles are always up to date
  • Run Bi-weekly hourly payroll once trained
  • Maintain Field Unionized weekly payroll
  • Maintain Union Employer contribution monthly reporting
  • Maintain CRA remittances
  • Maintain Year End processes.
Requirements
  • College Diploma in Administration (Human Resource and/or Payroll) or a university degree in Human Resources, or equivalent
  • Minimum of four years\' experience working within the payroll field, preferably in the manufacturing sector
  • The selected candidate will have a strong knowledge of government legislation and employment standards as they relate to payroll and accounting
  • The successful candidate must be detailed orientated, have strong organizational and time management skills
  • A Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Designation from the Canadian Payroll Association would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of a Human Resource Management Systems is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of PAYWORKS systems would be an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially in Excel (VLookups, pivot tables and formulas) is a must
  • Excellent communication skills in English - verbal / written.
