Reporting to the Payroll Manager or their designate, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and professional payroll services for all Tsuut'ina Nation employees. This includes processing payroll transactions, administering third-party source deductions, maintaining payroll records, and responding to employee inquiries in a professional manner. The role also supports the Finance Department with additional tasks and projects as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Payroll Processing- collect, verify, and accurately enter employee timesheet hours into Xyntax. Process third-party payroll deductions with accuracy and timeliness. Prepare and process weekly payroll in accordance with established deadlines. Issue accurate statements of earnings and deductions. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a professional and efficient manner.
Recordkeeping and Reporting- review and validate source documents for completeness and proper authorization. Maintain accurate and comprehensive payroll records and employee master files. Utilize Xyntax software to extract and analyze payroll reports as required.
Communication and Support- respond promptly and professionally to payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, Executive Directors, and Divisional Controllers. Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth payroll operations.
Compliance and Accountability- ensure compliance with the Tsuut'ina Nation Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual. Demonstrate accountability and ownership of assigned tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager, Director of Finance, or their designate.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
o High School Diploma or GED (CAEC).
o PCP or CPM Certification and/or training in Payroll administration is an asset.
o Minimum two (2) years of experience in payroll processing.
o Experience with business communication.
o Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
o Working knowledge of Xyntax accounting software is considered an asset.
o Knowledge of Tsuut'ina Culture and Language is considered an asset

o Comfortable with numbers, calculations and analyzing information.
o Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy
o Ability to work well both with a team and independently with minimal supervision
o Ability to communicate professionally in a customer service environment

General Employment Requirements:
o A valid Alberta driver's license and reliable transportation.
