About the role:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for an experience Payroll Analyst to participate in and oversee the preparation and processing of the bi-weekly payroll for Canada entity.

Reporting to Canada Payroll Manager, this role is accountable for taking responsibility for the day-to-day completion of assigned payroll functions including but not limited to the timely and accurate processing of Thermo Fisher payroll, journal entries (JEs) and issuance of Records of Employment (ROE) ensuring compliance with all federal and provincial statutory regulations, time and attendance, payroll and HRIS System. Provides support to the Payroll Manager functions when required.

How will you make an impact?

  • Entering and balancing and uploading the hours submission for hourly and salaried overtime as well as historical adjustment
  • Status Change and Manual Adjustment:
  • Process New Hire, Termination, LOA and RTW status change
  • ROE issuance
  • Setting up employee option for pension, benefit, car allowance and all other taxable benefit and deductions
  • Employee changes update such as merit, adjustment in pay, pension deduction percentage
  • Expense reporting and upload
  • Managing severance file for terminated employees and monitor the severance term
  • Upload the HRIS file and interface with the ADP system, capture the changes and audit prior to processing payroll
  • Upload and maintain all other pre-processing files such as benefit changes, employee stock purchase plan and commission
  • Off-cycle payroll and missed payments, YTD adjustment in the payroll system and request the payment from finance team
  • Taxes and Garnishment:
  • Garnishment set up, remittances and check requisition
  • Worker's compensation for all provinces, monthly balancing and remittance
  • Pension and RRSP administration, reporting and remittances
  • Balancing and Processing:
  • Balance and audit the payroll entries prior to the processing time and provide the details to the payroll manager
  • GL interface and other finance reconciliation is required
  • LOA and TRW Administration
  • Administration on LOA employee file, status changes, disability payments
  • Collecting of benefit shortfall for employees on LOA and YTD adjustment in payroll system
  • Maintaining the record of hours for employees on gradual return to work
  • Customer Service:
  • Responding to employees on related payroll concerns and issues in a timely fashion
  • Work closely with HR partners as well as all other Thermo Fisher stakeholders on issues, projects and questions
  • All other duties as assigned, such as projects and year-end activities
How will you get here?
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll for large and mid-size organization
  • Minimum PCP designation is required
  • Experience working with multiple payroll entities
  • Prior work experience with ADP Workforce Now, Globalview and Workday
  • Knowledge of Canadian Payroll Regulation and Legislation
  • Knowledge of American Payroll
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook and related computer application to the job
  • Excellent customer service skill and strong analytical ability
