Reports to: Manager, Payroll Compliance, SSO
Location: Hybrid Working Model - Work from Home and Office (Markham, ON) As a Payroll Analyst your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  • Complete monthly Bank and Payroll Clearing accounts reconciliations using the applicable financial application. Prepare necessary reclass journal entries.
  • Provide guidance to payroll administrators on payroll adjustments and updates. Liaise with Finance on G/L inquiries and escalations.
  • Assist in preparation of third party remittance requisitions, reporting, file submissions and reconciliations.
  • Verify payroll tax remittances and third party remittances against supporting payroll records before submitting to payroll manager for approval.
  • Manage monthly Garnishee remittances including requesting monthly payments, updating garnishee list, and distribution of payment cheques.
  • Audit and validate PTO balances on bi-weekly basis and prepare adjustment entries to clear out balances for terminated employees.
  • Support and work with Payroll team on payroll calculations relating to union collective agreements and new ratified agreements.
  • Assist in year-end processing, annual government filings and reconciliations.
  • Assist the payroll compliance team with special projects, and implementation of payroll changes required by legislations or union agreements.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce or related discipline.
  • Must have 3 – 5 years’ experience in Canadian Payroll Compliance OR Accounting with an emphasis on Payroll Compliance - multi province payroll, rules and legislation
  • Must be a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)
  • Advanced Experienced User and Proficient with Microsoft Excel - VLook Up, Pivot Table, Charts, Conditional Formatting and Logical Formulas
  • Strong analytical skills to prepare reports and consult with business leaders and team
  • Experience working with a Canadian Payroll System
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
  • You must successfully pass a Criminal Check
