Key Purpose
The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible to perform all payroll functions for all salaried and hourly employees, produce various reports, and answer employee queries regarding payroll and benefits.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Process and manage full cycle payroll using the Ceridian payroll system ensuring deadlines and accuracy standards are met
  • Ensure all payroll and benefit transactions are accurately reported and recorded in compliance with the provision of tax laws, regulations, and company policy
  • Administer and/or manage employee benefit plans, ensure benefit deductions and taxable benefits are set up accurately in Ceridian system
  • Track and reconcile employee time off (i.e., vacation days, sick days, and unpaid days etc., and ensure that time off requests are processed in accordance with company policies
  • Verify & maintain the integrity of payroll system data, new hires, employee change requests, terminations, deductions, taxable benefits, Web ROE's, garnishments, T4/T4A slips and other year-end reporting activities within the system
  • Ensure company policies and government requirements are being followed as they relate to payroll and benefits administration
  • Respond to all payroll and/or benefit related inquiries from employees and to external inquiries as required
  • Submit on a timely basis, all reporting requirements, and payments to various government agencies, third party vendors such as benefits provider, statutory deductions, etc.
  • Responsible for monthly headcount reporting and turnover reporting in conjunction with Finance and HR
  • Document accurate and detailed records of payroll functions for audit purposes following statutory requirements
  • Stay informed on the latest payroll legislation, regulations, procedures, and the Employment Standards Act
  • Enroll, coordinate, and reconcile benefits in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
Key Knowledge and Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian and US payroll regulations such as taxable benefits, calculation of vacation/statutory pay/severance pay etc.
  • Discretion, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy are essential as this role deals with very confidential information
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills, spreadsheets, formulas, pivot tables, etc.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Report Writing experience
  • Experienced ability to meet strict deadlines with superb attention to detail
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in full cycle payroll and benefits administration
  • Experience working with Ceridian
  • PCP designation in good standing with the Canadian and US Payroll Association would be considered an asset
