Position Description



The Canadian Pediatric Inpatient Research Network (PIRN - https://www.pirncanada.com) in collaboration with the Pediatric Outcomes imProvement through COordination of Research Networks (POPCORN), a CIHR-funded pediatric platform, is looking for a patient engagement coordinator. POPCORN brings together pediatric health researchers from 16 research sites across Canada to monitor health and social impacts related to COIVD-19 infections among diverse children and youth populations. Embedding patients and family perspectives in research design and execution is a strategic priority for POPCORN. Aligning POPCORN’s aims with patient and families’ insights, experiences, and information needs offers the opportunity to drive research that is meaningful to patients, and to share with the community the important learning from our world-class patient informed research. The POPCORN Patient Engagement Coordinator, will be responsible for;
  • Developing and managing a patient and family advisory committee, including recruitment, onboarding and training of patient and family advisors from across Canada.
  • Liaising with the POPCORN research community, and stakeholders across the pan-Canadian network, including clinicians, scientists, research teams, senior leadership, to embed the perspectives of patients and families and the values of patient-oriented research.
  • Collaborate with patients, family caregivers, researchers and other POPCORN stakeholders to
o identify opportunities for patient and family input,
o develop tools to support engagement,
o establish and coordinate governance structures and processes,
o develop and deliver communications, and
o prepare key performance indicators and reports for leadership. Qualifications:
  • Outstanding ability to interact with, engage, and build relationships with a large group of diverse stakeholders including patients, family caregivers, healthcare practitioners, and researchers.
  • Experience as a patient and/or family research advisor within a healthcare and/or child health organization is highly desired.
  • Possess 3-5 years of administrative, coordinator and/or project management experience
  • Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives
  • Experience with the values, practice and theories informing patient and community engagement is an asset
  • Expertise in business writing including policy, standards, reports, and designing and delivering presentations
  • Outstanding collaborative solutions-oriented approach and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of concepts, values, and theory related to patient engagement in healthcare and/or research are an asset
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Zoom, Teams, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
