The posting closes at 12:01am on the morning of the closing date*** Under the direction of the Chair of Business, Technology and Outdoor Training, the incumbent is primarily responsible for the daily administrative and technical operations in the science laboratory. This incumbent also provides field support where lab equipment and other specialized science equipment is used. This person provides technical expertise and support to faculty, students, and the Chair. The incumbent trains faculty and students and ensures their health and safety in the laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for the ordering of supplies, repair of lab and other specialized scientific equipment, and the optimal functioning of laboratory activities. The incumbent ensures laboratory activities are set up for faculty and cleaned up after a laboratory exercise. The incumbent also proposes and recommends new or modified procedures and long-term planning to improve the departmental operations. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides technical assistance to coordinators, faculty and students
• Monitors supplies and equipment
• Ensuring overall orderliness and cleanliness of laboratories
• Keeping up to date with new technological developments
• Performing assigned lab duties
• Monitoring the safety of laboratory activities
• Performing chemical inventory in order to comply with WHMIS legislation.
• Supports student and faculty use of specialized scientific equipment in field settings
• Demonstrating proper use of equipment in field settings

Required Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) year diploma/ degree or equivalent in Science (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology or environmental Science);
• Three (3) years of science-related technical duties in a laboratory environment or related experience.

Anticipated Weekly Schedule:

• 24 hours a week, distributed through the week depending on course loading

This is a 10 month per year position with a 2 month per year layoff period each July and August. This position requires on-site work at Algonquin College's Pembroke Campus.
